mine's almost a year old and no problems with peeling paint on the grille.
the rubber bumper falling off certainly is annoying. happened to me, they replaced the palmrest. so its all good.

you really need a 9 cell battery for this unit, 6 cell wouldnt give u much battery life.

i dont have any problems with hibernation. did you reformat the unit after getting it? its quite sensitive to driver and system software installation order when you reformat. search the forum to find a link to the installation order.

    WestDev,

I have a similar problem about once every 7-10 days when I go into Hibernation or Stand-by: upon resuming, the notebook (including the screen) comes back on and starts loading the apps, everything seems to work for about 15 sec. then the notebook freezes (mouse, keyboard, everything except keyboard backlight and screen brightness which leads me to think that it is an OS thing (XP SP3)). Tried everything suggested by Dell and this forum, upgraded the BIOS, (re)installed the original/latest drivers, no help. Some have posted that they have the same problem, but it does not happen frequently so they gave up and live with it. I rarely shut down/restart, I normally keep my apps running and just Hibernate/Stand-by at the end of the day, so this is a real pain for me but no luck finding a fix so far. I never had this problem with my previous notebook (Toshiba Tecra) running the same OS and apps...???

    Good luck!

I was using a USB broadband modem and switched over to the GOBI internal mini PCI-E card yesterday.

I'm a little annoyed at having to use the Dell Connection Manager to run the thing, I preferred the Sprint Smartview utility, but it won't see the card. But other than that, the card works great under Windows 7.

You have to do a bit of tweaking to force the Qualcomm drivers to install under 7, but it's not a big deal at all.

    Hi guys,

I wanted to let you know that I posted two ideas on Dell's IdeaStorm website, which is kind of an official Dell forum for new ideas and suggestions.

IDEA #1 (link): offer a 2.5'' HDD caddy for the modular bay, instead of the 1.8'' HDD caddy currently on offer. For those who don't know, there's a thread describing how to use a Lenovo 2.5'' HDD caddy on a Dell Latitude or Precision. 2.5'' HDD's are faster, larger and much more standard in the laptop market.

IDEA #2 (link): make the fingerprint reader standard, so that we can use it without Wave's Embassy Trust Suite, and so that it will work with many applications requiring passwords (including Firefox, Email clients, etc). This will also allow it to be used with Win 7's built-in software.

If you agree with these ideas, follow their respective links and vote for them (and if you disagree, vote against them!). You will have to register on Dell's IdeaStorm website which is free and very painless (username, password and email only). In the past Dell has used many ideas posted by members of those forums and I think it is our best shot at having these ideas implemented in the future.

having had my palmrest replaced a week+ ago, i can now safely say that it may be a hardware issue...the touchpad lagging. i messed around with the settings, but this touchpad seems much less sensitive than the one i had before. also, the right mouse button is sticking.

dell's replacing it on monday. i suppose if the lagging goes away, it must be a hardware issue.
