I can remember that the German IT magazine "c't" (which is pretty reliable) just tested calibration hardware in combination with RGBLED screens. I will have a look if I still have that particular magazine later on.:)

    I can confirm that.

Again c't :). They pointed out that HP has a color profile online that works pretty well when used as a generic color profile for RGBLED screens. I'm using it, and it greatly improved color reproduction. I'd like to do a real calibration, though, but I don't want to spend money on a calibration device AGAIN (different story):(.

It really is a fantastic machine. :)

I'm contemplating an SSD upgrade soon, and then swapping in the current primary (7200RPM) to the caddy to use that for my data drive/VM's.

I've got a lot installed, and only using 60Gigs on the primary so that makes the 128GB SSD the logical choice, but which one to choose. I think I'm leaning towards the Samsung controlled Corsairs. I am tempted by the likes of GSkill drives, but I've been reading about a lot of firmware issues with drives that use the Indilinx controller.

So this is the most likely candidate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233075

Maybe this can help you decide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4816234&postcount=51
Keep in mind that despite its young age that post may already be (partly) outdated again.

What particular Indilix problems have you heard of? I have not heard of any, I have not followed it during the last three to four weeks...

    Hey Guys,

I just received my m4400 and let me start off by saying it's amazing!...Except for one thing...

    Backlight leaking

I went with the WUXGA RGB LED screen and there is definitely some backlight leaking on the bottom area of the screen. It's not noticeable when doing everyday tasks. In fact, I can only notice it when I am looking at a black screen or watching a movie with top and bottom black bars.

Is everyone having this same problem? I'm debating whether or not to call dell and ask them for a replacement panel or to send the laptop back for a new one.

Mine's like that. To switch or not will be up to how much of an annoyance it is to you now that you notice it. Use it for a day or two, watch a movie or three, and see how that goes. Don't let too much time slip by without making a decision, I recall reading the 21 day return policy - assuming you bought the M4400 new - starts when they ship it, not when you receive it.

All the SEC5443 screens are like that, RGB LED or 2CCFL both give that light leaking. I tried 3 replacements for the screen but all were the same. I got them to offer me a refund because of the crappy screen (after 1 1/2 months or so) and asked for a good deal on a 2709W screen....got it @ 1/2 price :D

That said, i usually work with the brightness @ 50% and then it's hardly noticeable....like you said only on a black screen.

    @ Christoph

try turning your brightness up too 100% and check a completley black background, test a empty black screen as screensaver. you'll probably see a brighter bar of about 3,5cm high along the bottom of your screen. If not, you have a unique screen and you're VERY lucky :D
