Was wondering if this was a good deal I got from the outlet last night:

    M4400, P8700, 2gb Ram, 160gb HD, 15.4wxga+ LED(Samsung), DVD Burner, Bluetooth, Intel 5300N Wireless, FX770M Video.

Got this for 985 shipped. I have 4gb of ram and a 500gb HD laying around. Wanted to make sure this is a good deal.

Sounds pretty good! And i wouldn't have paid the extra for the FX 1700M. From what i heard here it did indeed give somewhat higher temps but that largely depends on the rest of the component in the laptop too. But all in all the consensus was that the slightly higher performance really wasn't worth any extra money...you could always overclock the 770M a bit to get the same results.

Cool, I had a choice of that or for 400 more a similar laptop with a T9800 and FX1700M in it, is that worth the extra price??

Don't think so...i'd go for the first one. You'll still have the M6400 for the heavier work? If not, the faster processor might be handy but if you're getting the M4400 too have a more portable workstation on the side i'd go for the p8700 (lower power consumption and heat) and the FX 770M.
And 400 more is quite a lot i think.

Well I decided to go with neither and this guy sold me his M4400 with a QX9300, FX770M, 500gb HD, WXGA+LED,4gb ram, for 1600. Plus it comes with a complete care warranty until march of 2012.

600$ just for a QX9300 and the bigger hdd... Most applications won't use the 3rd and 4th core + the additional heat... I think the one with the P8700 would have been the better deal for a M4400 (thought you wanted to switch to the M4400 to spare some bucks... for a high end processor/system the M6400 is definately the better system)

    Pros for Intoxicates Opinion.
Go for the lowest TDP overall.

    T-CPU 35W
    P-CPU 25W
    Quad-CPU 45W

    FX770M 35W
    FX1700M 50W

Really depends what you do with it... the QX9300 is a phenomenal processor, but it'll cut your battery life in half from one of the P-series processors. I use mine as my primary workstation, and I'm usually running at least 5-10 programs with 1-2 virtual machines as well, so having the extra cores is beneficial. If you're just using the machine to browse the web and use the internet, get a Latitude E6500 and save a few hundred.

Or if you still have your 6400, you could swap the processors... I had an online chat w/ a Dell tech, and as long as you don't damage stuff swapping them, they're cool with keeping the warranty in tact (provided both systems were under warranty).

I sold it for 2500 on ebay. I only paid 2000 for it, so I made profit on that plus I only paid 1500 for this one.
