Well I'll get my screen replaced by tomorrow so we'll see.

    About the lid:

Generally speaking from an engeneering point this solution is way better then a 100%-flat screen. The little flex in this case i guess, is wanted as well.
The pressure wont reach the display at all and it feels solid other then that.

Whats a bit more to be watched out for is the left and right front edges of the base-unit.
I'll use a d-c-fix darkred velour foil to cover it so its fine for me anyway.

BTW. am I stupid or since when can a E6400 be colored? I just checked on the DELL site and found this option ...

as far as i know, there is not 2mp cam option for the M4400, its just a VGA cam.

Well its a needless extra-extra-feature anyway just like the fingerprint reader ;) ...

    Another question:
Does anyone know how to disable the C4-Stepping with RMClock on an M4400 ? The chipset is not recognized correctly.

not really, being in a long distance relationship and travelling all the time makes the webcam a pretty key piece of equipment, no fussy wires to deal with when in transit at airports etc.

also some of my team members are based in different countries, and we have videocall meetings.

the fingerprint reader to me is useful, as when i startup/resume (when showing images etc to people) there is no chance of anyone watching me type in a password.

With RMClock, I couldn't tell you - I use Gentoo Linux.

For others using Linux, I have found the best battery life / noise reduction tradeoff to be the kernel option "idle=halt" - "processor.max_cstate=3" was no help, as was "processor.max_cstate=2". "processor.max_cstate=1" sounded like idle=halt, but had 800ma more power drain than "idle=halt."

For what it's worth, the noise is completely gone when idle. Certain graphics redrawing operations are the only thing that make noise now, and only very minutely via headphones. I still wouldn't use it for any studio stuff, but for general purpose work it's much better than the annoying high pitched noise that was going on before.

easy, remove the battery, there are two clips that keep the "hdd, batt, wifi, volume button" etc led strip on. if you push those clips you can snap that strip off, and there are 2 screws or so, remove the screws and you can slide out the keyboard. mine is slightly uneven too, not sure why either. i have a few spare keyboards, havent checked them to see if they're uneven too.

To extend what afhstingray said above, on the right side of the strip, you will notice two holes. Use a plastic-covered paperclip, straightened out a bit, and stick about an inch into one of the holes. Push the strip to the left and lift the paperclip slightly, and the strip will pop right off, revealing the keyboard screws. Unscrew, then lift and pull towards the rear of the unit, and the keyboard will pop right out (along with, IIRC, the upper mouse buttons, which are part of the same unit).
