unless it can offer a substantial reduction in size/weight etc dell normally keeps the same chassis for incremental updates for example M6500>M6400 vs D830 vs E6500 its cheaper for businesses due to part commonality etc

If i google "Dell m4500 release" i only get the messages here and some requests on Dell Ideastorm for functions to include in the M4500.

    Hey all,

I'm coming up to 1 yr on my m4400 and my battery life is starting to suck. It was about 3.5 hrs when I got the laptop, now it is < 1.5 hours. It behaves very strangely in that it discharges normally down to abaout 50% and then the last 50% will go in about 10 mins. Just this week I started getting popup warnings telling me that my battery was "charging normally" but I may notice "decreased battery life", which I assume means the dell software itself is starting to notice that things are not looking right.

So I guess I'm wondering, what is the experience of people with battery warranty claims? I know I have to do it within a year, but is this performance bad enough that Dell would replace my battery under warranty? Or will they claim this is normal wear and tear for a battery? I don't want to wait until it fails completely and then find it's 2 weeks out of warranty.

Cheers & thanks for any info!

    Simon.

Hey Simon, I would certainly be asking for it to be replaced.

I had my first 9 cell replaced at 6 month's because it was throwing up random error blinking on the battery indicator, even then it wasn't that often.....often enough to get me thinking about chemical firework's in the middle of the night though.;)

Ring Dell, tell them it won't hold a charge and they should just ship you another with a prepaid return package for you to send the old one back, it's not like you don't have just cause to ask for it, I personally find the whole limited battery warranty thing pretty annoying actually and I strongly suggest you do it before the year's up, because they're very expensive to buy.
