Precision M4400 Owner's Lounge *Part 2*

What Bios are you using to play games? I seem to remember that some time ago people were still using A02 or A03 as the best bios for gaming. Is this still the case even with all these newer Bios that have come out?

 

A15 was good for games, not too loud, not too hot. A18 is good too, but probably exchanges extra cooling for extra noise, since the fans kick in more.

 

A good shooter for the "wow" factor is Crysis, saying it will run on the M4400 at 1920x1200 and high setting's is totally unrealistic unless you like a slideshow.
Mine will run it at an average of 32fps in DX9,1440x900 at the setting's in the attachment, I consider that frame rate as barely ok, it still a stunning looking game at those setting's with some interesting player interaction.
Everything run's pretty well on the M4400 as long as your expectation's are not super high, i haven't had to drop resolution yet with anything, but you quite usually have to reduce some quality setting's like shader's and lighting effect's as at the end of the day still a generation old midrange GPU.

 

@WestDev, i see from an earlier post of your's that you have a WD3200bekt

Could I bother you to download the free HDtune pro trial version and run random access time for "read" see example below.....I'm interested in how it compare's in this to the Hitachi equivalent I have in the same machine. http://www.hdtune.com/

 

Thanks's for that, I havent bought WD before but more than likely will next time, the single platter 160GB version is a great performer as well going by this test.
Hopefully they will get a 5000BEKT to market shortly.

 

I just ran Modern Warfare 2, it ran smoothly!

Somebody suggested to cranck up the clock a bit, but keeping an eye on the temps. Any suggestions what software to use for this?
Rivatuner maybe?

Another question is the following: I'm totally not used to the 1920X1200 resolution. I could manage with it increasing the DPI, but the surfing the web is not a good exprience.. the website's are way to small. And zooming in only makes the images blurry.
Is there any good solution to this?

 

For me, I use Windows 7's DPI scaling set to 125% which is a nice balance. For web browsing, I use Firefox and the NoSquint plugin, which allows you to set the zoom level (either page or text) for every website you visit. I find a full page zoom of 120% is quite comfortable and doesn't effect images too badly.

 

Does anyone know how to adjust keyboard backlight timing? I don't use DCP software, just Fn + Right Arrow.

 

I use the Nvidia control panel software that comes along with the 770M/1700M driver (right-click desktop, Nvidia CP / Profiles / Custom, then play around with the sliders). Every chip is different, I cannot recommend how high you might O/C each setting, and it does run hot. I only overclocked after undervolting and applying AS5 thermal paste to GPU and CPU.
