Hey PU, I don't think this is normal. I have a WD3200BEKT (320GB, non-ffs) and the platter motion or vibration is completely inaudible to me. It does make occasional (muted) clicking noises, but a "woosh" sounds like platter friction outside of specs (just my opinion). I also have a WD1600BJKT (160GB, with ff) and it doesn't make any wooshes either. If you have another drive to use for a few weeks, I would send it back to WD on their standard replacement service.

Hello Guys - Well, the Dell ProSupport has certainly proven its value. I was having some issues including excessive heat which melted the speaker grill paint, and they eventually replaced the original unit (which I bought refurbished from Dell Outlet) with a new one via Fedex overnight.

Question -- does anyone know how to determine which manufacturer is the source of the display panel? I know my previous one from AU Optronics was *excellent*, but I don't remember how I determined the source.

Sure, check the hardware id in device manager. SEC is samsung, AU is AU and LG was LPD or something if i remember correctly....starts with an L anyway ;)

Thanks newswami and WestDev. I'll talk to WDC when I get the time to do it. I have everything backed up just in case.

By the way, I see Generic PnP monitor in my "Monitors" section. Is this the right sub-section I am looking at?

I just bought myself a refurbished Precision M4400.
It has the dualcore Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100, FX770 graphics card, 8 gb of ram and a 1920X1200 screen. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit version on it. Who of the members games on his laptop and how is the gaming experience?

@Precision_user - Under the Generic PnP Monitor details, go to the rightmost tab (Details) and on the drop-down list, select "Hardware ID"

@Tarik20 - I haven't played anything on my current M4400, but my old one (w/ QX9300) would run Crysis on High settings @ 1920x1200 (no AA) at a very reasonable framerate. They're pretty solid for gaming. You may want to bump the clocks on the 770 a bit (definitely keep an eye on temps) but it should handle games at native resolution quite well.

I'm a gamer and I play strategy games, so my experience is wonderful....I haven't played Crysis on it, but it will run pretty great I've read.

They sent you a 'new' unit to replace a 'refurb' from the outlet? Where do you live and what did proSupport have to do with this? This is good information for others.....good for you!

US of A ;) I think that you get 3yrs ProSupport with any M4400 purchase from Dell. For me, that has now proven worth the premium, even though I got a great deal from the outlet. Could have priced a consumer model lower, but now I'm glad I went with this product/service.

Congrats Tarik, nice piece of hardware. I don't game much, but Burnout Paradise runs fast with my spec, and the graphics look sick, especially racing the sport bikes. Looking forward to try a couple more games, maybe a good first-person / pure shooter.

Any suggestions from the forum for shooters that run well on the M4400?
