Are all M2400 screens LED backlit (WLED) or are there still some that comes with CCFL?

How do I tell which kind of screen I am seeing?

I'm thinking of getting the one with WXGA+(1440x900) resolution, but can anyone tell me if this is a WLED or CCFL powered?

I believe that WXGA+ for 1440x900 is WLED backlit. But the person selling me the M2400 is saying that it is CCFL.

Is there any concrete way to determine if it's WLED or CCFL by say looking at the bios info or the Hardware Ids in the device manager?

I don't think it's reliable to determine solely by the brightness of the screen alone (harder if there is no other screen to be compared with side by side).

Currently all LCDs on M2400s (at least in the US Dell stores) are LED -- 1280x800 (WXGA) and 1400x900 (WXGA+). It appears that most (or all) of them are manufactured by Samsung. The detailed invoice/original system config. should state something like this:

"Liquid Crystal Display 14.1WXGA+,Light Emitting Diode,Samsung"

The actual part number for this, just mentioned LED LCD is TT219.

My M2400 is now fully fonctionnal and I like it. Everything runs smooth except for one thing: the hard drive makes some noise! It's a high-pitched audible seeking noise. My hard drive model is: ST9250421ASG, a 250G Seagate HD.

Am I the only one experiencing that?

Thanks, I may contact them. Or buy a new HD and keep this one as a backup.. I hope the problem (noise) is only HD related though.

There is a recent firmware update for your drive (and I have the same drive, too) published at Dell support site. After the firmware update the noise is gone. Check it here:
    9250421ASG.

You'll need to make an ISO burn to CD and reboot.

njs8384, thanks for the help. I just did that.. It seems it updated some files in a command prompt type of window when I rebooted, then I "press a key to continue" and reboot it again. I still hear the HD clearly. What are the files inside the "Files" directory: DE16.BAT, DE16.lod and SF.EXE? Do I have to do something with them or are they useless if I used the ISO CD?

If you did the ISO CD, then you are done with the update (and you don't need other files -- they are used for other types of install). If you still have noise, then I would call Dell and see if they can send you a new drive or do some type of replacement. The firmware update was supposed to fix: "the DE16 firmware corrects an audible "clicking" noise". That's what I had and the update fixed it. However, I re-read your post and you said that you have "a high-pitched audible seeking noise". So that may be something different and I would call Dell if the issue is still there after a couple of reboots (and maybe checking if you have the most recent BIOS -- A11 as of 12/20/08). Later, when you have lots of data on your drive, the drive replacement could become more painful :( , so resolve the issue as soon as possible. Otherwise, M2400 is an excellent notebook. I'm currently running Windows 7 Beta with no problems.
