    Thanks Greg,

I have downloaded the version 213 of the driver but it does not seem to bring any new functionality (but its options are better understandable than the version that came on my laptop). I think that the options I am missing were specific to Synaptics touchpads...

    Regards,

    Murat

I received my M2400 2 weeks ago. Quite happy with it generally although I don't have much time to test it more thoroughly. The build quality is great and much better than my XPS1330. The sound quality is also significantly better than 1330 provided you follow what Marcuslai suggested in a post on page 9 of this forum. Another plus point is that the blue indicators lights are bright, clear and beautiful.

Reinstalled the repartitioned it few days ago. Reinstallation was a pain as there are so many drivers and utilities to install. There were many items not marked as found hardware of your system when you run the Drivers n Utilities DVD. If you have opted for the fingerprint reader, the drivers are bundled in Dell security software. Really need to be patient to try out what drivers/utilities to install to have m2400 running properly. There is near to none for instructions/documentation on how to reinstall this workstation.

I have Vista and XP residing at different partitions because I prefer XP for some of my older hardware. It is best to have the updated SATA drives application from Dell website slipstreamed with sp3 into your XP installation disc using nlite, for example, so that you can use the IRRT option in the BIOS for both Vista and XP. Well, I am sure there are other ways to work around this but this was how i installed mine.

Will share my experience when I have more hands-on on it later.

Oups sorry, my subscription to this thread has stopped to work it seems.

I find the touchpad quite erratic in comparison with the Synaptics of my preceding Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. There were nice features like configuring taps in some corners of the touchpad with special functions (like the back function in my browser). Also the functions that allow to continue to scroll the page when your finger has attained the border of the touchpad in the scrolling area, etc. Definitely details without which I can live ;-) But hte general unreliability is quite annoying for me (I have tried different settings about the sensistivity of the touchpad, without any succcess :-( ) Given that using a mouse hurts my hand I become totally dependent on the touchpad now and I regret these problems.

Example: I am moving the pointer then some text gets selected by error ( event if I have deactivated the point and drag function). If I do not see this and type some words, I am good for a control Z and retype the new words...

Have you also such problems? I remember now that I had to buy a mouse for my preceding DELL (before the Fujitsu Siemens...)

    Hi

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro from an original CD on an M2400, but I get the blue screen of death every time! Any ideas?

Perhaps I need those Intel storage drivers... I've tried downloading them from the Dell site but it uncompresses to an executable, not drivers that I could slip stream or install from a floppy.

    Any ideas?

There are two downloads from the Dell site, both labelled as Intel Storage Matrix Manager, one of them is an EXE package, and the other is for slipstreaming I believe.

    Thanks Speedy

Right now I'm trying the drivers direct from Intel on a floppy disk and specifying them with F6 during installation. So far so good. If that's a bad idea someone let me know before it explodes :)
