Only run 64bit if you have 4gb or more of ram or have applications that require or take advantage of 64bit. Otherwise, you're wasting your time.

My benchmark scores from Vista 32 and Vista 64 only differed by a couple of points and the CPU scores didn't change at all.

The biggest complaint I have is RMClock and Alcohol 120% doesn't work. Also, When I wake my laptop up from sleep, I can't adjust the screen brightness. The wireless drivers go nuts sometimes: I've tried both intel's and Dell's implementation. Both misbehave. I can't run custom drivers, cause they must be signed in order to be loaded. I haven't looked at how to get around this yet.

That being said, gaming is possible. I play Portal, HL2, Flatout 2, and other slightly aged games just fine. Visual Studio, Office 2007, etc, all work fine.

Like I said at the start, unless you need 64bit for memory or certain applications, just stick with 32bit. Hopefully Windows 7 will have better support...

Just a quick question for you owners of a new M2400- how much does it weigh exactly? The Dell site advertised the E6400 at 4.3 lbs, but with a realistic configuration, it came out to over 5.1 lbs (the NotebookReview of the 6400 complained twice about the weight in the conclusion). I'm wondering if Dell similarly stretched the specs for the M2400. This is a very impressive computer (especially in the academic configurations, where it can come installed with XP-64 and 8GB of Ram). But if it weighs more than my 5 year-old 14" T41, I just can't make the move (ditto for the T400)..

Keep in mind that chassis-wise, the E6400 and the M2400 are the same computer. Similar specs will have the same weight. So a M2400 with a 6 cell battery and an optical drive will weigh about 5.1 pounds.

I heard Vista64 is backwards compatible with Vista32?

Also when I choose Vista downgrade to XP do you get both Vista and Xp's cd/dvd?

No. That would be a super-upgrade.

    lol i had to ask.

Eagle Imagery, what's the approx. battery life on your M2400? I've been considering the T9400 chip as well.

R.Ng, most people have been posting that they have recieved both disks. Initially there were posts of only the Vista disk being included.

    Thanks SpeedyMods.

I guess it just depends on who your rep is.

I read that the the Vista is bloatware free, is that the same for XP? Would you know?
