Power option is set to "Stand By" on lid close. But i don't want my system to be working when i close the lid. Also i don't want it to be shut down as well...
It was working till day before yesterday and i don't know suddenly what happened.

I think you're experiencing the same thing as me. Sometimes my D620 fails to go into standby because of excessive memory usage or something crazy like that. It will just lock up after the screen turns off, leaving everything, except the WiFi LED and the screen, on.

Part of that problem, as I have found out, is because of heavy use. I always have IE7 and Outlook running, and memory leaks from them (and Vista) is pretty serious. I have to close Outlook (leaving IE7 running) to go into standby successfully, but sometimes after 6+ hours of use, even that will cause a lockup. I even upgraded my memory from 2GB to 4GB because of this issue, bu it's only helped a little bit. I don't know about your M2400, but if you use it heavily like me, that's probably why it's having problems going into standby.

There were a few occasions my now-discarded D600 refused to sleep after the lid was closed. As a result, the heat generated within the carrying case eventually caused both of the hinges to crack and break. I had the similar occasional insomnia problem with XPS M1330 too. The laptops only 'slept' after the batteries were totally drained off. The laptops were so hot that they were literally burning.

If you are not really in a hurry, please make sure that your precious precision really sleeps before you put it into any casing.

I do agree with Robin24k that the erratic "unrest" problem has something to do with the workload assigned to the laptop. When it gets exhausted, it starts to misbehave.

I had sleep and hibernate problems with my Acer Ferrari and it was due to a bad memory module.

Yes i think my issue is also the same...I tried to do stand By manually and the system just hung . I had to power off my system for making it work again. But unlike you i was not heavily using my system at all...I just started the system for 5-10 mins and then tried to Stand By.

    Can anybody help?

Try with different memory modules if you can. Or at least remove one of the modules and try each one separately in the computer and see if you have the same problem. As I said earlier I had a problem identical to that with my Acer Ferrari and it was due to a faulty memory module, when I removed that module and only ran 512mb of memory everything worked perfectly.

Ok, the issue with stand by is resolved after i restored from a point where it was working fine. I noticed that the changes which the restore manager was pointing out as "Removed Apple Mobile Device Manager". I dont know what it is and i never removed it.
Now the touch pad issue is still there. Anybody knows how to resolve this?
