reading this whole thread, this makes me think, should I even pursue the option of replacing my m6700 because they dont have some parts in stock (backdated) or just try get it repaired instead at any cost , 110% RGB 10bit panel is hard to forget , and other than perhaps lcd/motherboard/edp cable issue I should be golden with it .

Good point re: having it replaced/upgraded and shifting it on ebay, thats perhaps the only way as I feel about it at the moment, as the more I read it the more antipathy I begin to feel about the new 7720 model

Restored the factory image, still not working... Unsurprised. At least I've cleared all the junk that's accumulated.

It's a current model so I imagine that they will want to try switching parts out first.

I really feel for you, man. I honestly don't know how you're managing. How is the the Precision workstation working out? I opted for Lenovo's P510 workstation instead of Dell's T7810. Boy, what a mistake: endless trouble. It was really quiet, though, when it worked. I ended up selling it to one of Lenovo's tech support engineers for a huge loss.

HP ZBooks have issues too, it would seem. To think I still have a Dell M6600 that will not quit: the good old days.

Honestly speaking, I have owned a lot of PMWs from DELL and can tell you I have very little faith in their ability to produce a really good, high level, reliable laptop; at least not for the immediate future. DELL could surprise me with the next iteration I am sure as they are capable of it of course. With that said though, if I had a choice right this second I would go back to ZBooks.

halfway good news! I think i had multiple issues. After replacing the motherboard (a second time) and the video card I got video to partially work out of the docking station 4k@24hz. Previously this didn't work at all and i tried various resolutions and refresh rates. After some research my docking station does not support usb 3.0 and the updated usb3.0 model is required for dual 4k@60hz. I have a new one on order.

I am a bit worried about the thermal paste job the guy did on the cpu and motherboard I may need to take off the heatsink at some point and redo it.... Does anyone have any suggestions on which product to use?

I am going to do this too, to both the CPU and the GPU but I am going to use liquid metal. Specifically Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. You can find YT videos on how to apply this to laptops. I would also look on the GamersNexus YT channel for how much metal TIM to apply to the CPU/GPU surfaces.
If you don't want to go down that route I would suggest Arctic MX4.

On my 6th replacement I booted it up, went through the windows setup, then went into BIOS and configured it to turn off Switchable graphics. Soon as I did that the dreaded line of hot pixels appeared on the last row of the LCD! I literally had this brand new machine on for 30 minutes and ran into this issue. No peripherals attached. There's no way I'm the only one that's experienced this, especially on several new replacements.

Ok. Got the new usb 3.0 docking station in, the "eport plus ii". With Optimus on, and it doesn't matter what settings i choose for "enable dock display port" or "discrete graphics controller direct output mode" in the bios -- Only DPort-2 works at all and will detect the display and provide video at 4k@60hz. If i turn off Optimus, it switches and then only DPort-1 on the dock works... WTF! The other port seems completely dead and the OS, does not detect anything plugged in...

I'm going to have to retest the other dock i have that only works @ 24hz, i think it had similar issues, but i'm not sure, and also with my old lattitude which worked with both ports of the old dock no problem.

Why is this so freaking difficult?
