Has anyone purchased a pcie "with interposer" or otherwise tried installing a pcie ssd into the 2.5" bay? If so, what did you install, a 2.5" intel (afaik the only manufacturer of 2.5" form factor pcie drives), or an m2 with an "interposer" as dell calls it? I'm mostly curious if any of the 2.5" to m2 adapters negatively impact pcie performance or the physical stability/security of the card or if there's something I'm not understanding about how Dell installs PCIe drives into that bay from the factory. I've never heard of a laptop with a 2.5" PCIe slot that can run both a spinner and a PCIe. It's hard to justify the price Dell and Lenovo charge for the drive and memory upgrades on these workstations.

I ended up ordering the interposed with my system because I couldn't find the part anywhere else.

    Good luck

I believe Dell Mano G mentioned a double-function connector that supports both (like a combo USB/eSATA port).

    Hi guys,

This laptop is one that ticked all the boxes for me as a pro photographer seemed a bit more "pro" than the XPS with the ability to really upgrade SSDs and mem.

After reading this thread I'm very concerned about the UHD IGZO display. What happened here?? This display got excellent reviews across the board on other laptops(M3800 most notably).

Did something change on it? Does it have a new matte coating now that is causing issues? Should I just pickup a used M3800 or even a new Zenbook?

I'm desperate to get a non-Mac laptop for serious photography work....display has to be sharp, accurate, and bright across the board. If it winds up being like a TN display what's the point?

    Thanks all!!

I just got mine and I've ordered the cheapest SATA and RAM as I'm going to upgrade it myself.
I had a closer look at the connector where my 2.5" SATA6 Curcial is connected to.
Indeed it has pins on both sides. On the upper side there are the std SATA pins. On the lower sider there a thinner/smaller pins. All the way to the right there are 3 pins, than there is a little gap and then are another 7 pins.
They look similar to the M.2 pins, but just a less pins. I reckon its because this is just a "PCIe x1" port instead of the M.2 with "PCIe x4".

I'm not quite sure which SSD to buy so I can connect something to it... There is no caddy or similar stuff included for something different than a 2.5" hdd/sdd...

Anyone a idea how to use a PCIe SSD on this port? And which one?

@bee144 : Which SM951 are you using? The AHCI or does the NVMe work as well (with Win7)?

UPDATE: Have a look at the reply of "DELL-Justin C" this thread guys: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19681795

What I described is the part 5WNPC. It has this little pins on the bottom.
On Part WPTND you can see that this little pins are connected and you have a spot to put the M.2 card.
Y1WJX & HR8P8 complete the set you need to install your own NVMe card after you purchased your 7510.

But as I want at least 1.5TB in my 7510 I will keep my Crucial 1TB for now and add a 512GB NVMe in the empty slot... Waiting anxiously until there are 1TB NVMe M.2 cards available

I share this criticism, one that's not talked about much here. The trackpad buttons should be better for a device of this quality. Sometimes I'll press too lightly and it won't register as a click, despite having fully actuated the switch. Oddly, the left click button seems to have this issue more than the right one, and this quirk was consistent between the two machines I tried. The trackpoint buttons are far better and I've started to get acquainted with using them instead, but still... as you said, for a device of this caliber, they should be better.

How often does the 7510 show up in the outlet? I've been looking for the past 4 days but all they have is the older Mx800

I think I've figured out what is going on here. It seems that the IGZO panel on the 5510 line has touch and has no Anti-Glare(AG) coating - this seems to be the same or very similar to what was on the older M3800.

However, on the 7510 line of the precision you lose the touch and gain an Anti-Glare coating giving the display a matte or semi-matte finish. This will cut the viewing able some but it is tough to say how much exactly.

I did find a Youtube video where two XPS are viewed side by side that differ only by the panel type. The matte-panel seems to dim slightly as the monitor is turned and the panel without the AG/matte coating seems a tad brighter.

I would still love to see these in person though.
