Unfortunately, you won't be able to see the issue in a screenshot... it has to be an up close photo. However, if you're not noticing it, then you probably don't have it. Mainly, what's really visible to me from my photo is the vertical stripe effect on the blue, which I assume is a form of screen door effect. I suppose it's also possible that the effect varies from panel to panel, meaning mine might be potentially defective.

Thanks for the report - I think a replacement screen may be on the docket in the near future.

I kinda wondered about using the 'Snipping Tool' for that. My camera is on loan ... when I get it back I'll take a similar shot of my Dell7510 screen and post that.

I think your right to consider a replacement screen ... I had a single dead pixel in mine and I called Tech Support - I had them send out a new panel and did the replacement myself. I thought about living with the dead pixel but I would always see it and it would bug the hell out of me. Some of the members (not this forum) talked me into replacing the panel - I'm soooo glad I did ... And I thought dead pixels were a thing of the past.

I know what it feels like to look at an eyesore - it spoils the whole experience. This is a really nice piece of gear so I hope you get it resolved.

The m1000m is a $70 upgrade from the 5170m. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the FirePro had better or at least very similar performance when it comes to most professional graphics tasks. This generation of quadros have pretty good gaming performance, although many would probably consider it a bit of a waste if that's all you're using the graphics card for. Also, the quadros have the ability to help with some processor intensive tasks but I'm way out of my depth when it comes to talking about it.

All in all, I'm happy with my 7510. Mine also has the LG IPS display and it's very bright, no screen door effect that I can see, although there is some noticeable backlight bleeding when the screen is black and the room is dark. They came out and replaced it (with another LG) and the bleeding was unaffected.

The one really annoying thing is these cheap wobbly lower touchpad buttons. Although they seem like they'll last over time. I grew up in a machine shop and seeing excessive play in a moving part on a high end device irks me. To be fair I had bought a different brand a few months previous with integrated buttons and the left button failed within a couple weeks due to the touchpad becoming detached in the top right corner, and sent it back. Also, the touchpad has already worn smooth in the center after just a couple months. That said the gestures work good so I don't use the buttons too often and the buttons on the touchpoint are noticeably better for whatever reason. Fortunately this return also coincided with some technical upgrades at work that required more than the previous ultra book could handle so I went and got a workstation.

If I didn't have the $200 off coupon when I bought mine, I might've sent it back and tried the new thinkpad. The concern there though is its a lottery to get an IPS display and I work in a greenhouse/plant lab where a bright IPS display is really nice to have.

I can see benchmarks for the M1000M and M2000M but none for the new Firepros. Maybe I should wait for reviews and benchmarks to come out.

What kind of benchmark do you need?

Another thing you're probably already aware of but is worth mentioning is that the 7510 is much more effectively cooled than the 5510, and in an identical setup the 7510 will get better graphics benchmarks. This will also sway the benchmarks you find online since afaik the 5170m is only found in machines with good cooling whereas the m1000m is found in the 5510.

I received mine (Outlet 6920Q, M1000M) with what I believed was the FHD IPS Ultrasharp. HWinfo lists it as B156HW01 V1, but all info I can find on the internet indicates that is a TN screen originally from 2011. I don't have any complaints (not a color-critical application) other than a bit of light bleed in the lower right portion of the panel, but I'd like to know that I got what I ordered. Definitely a zippy computer, especially after adding in a Samsung 950 Pro ssd.
