Last week I ordered a Dell XPS 15 FHD and i had 4 display panels and 2 mainboard replacements. The XPS 15 FHD panels have very bad response time, scrolling in webpages makes text & images very blurry, blue link colors in google turns purple. Everything with scrolling or smooth animation is horrible. The first panel had even more extreme ghosting, the last one also with yellow tint on the left side. Dell is now looking for a solution, i hope a replacement for another model. So i was looking at the Precision 7510 until i see now that the FHD panels have also issues with low contrast, yellow tint and door effect....

Can owners of a FHD (Ultrasharp IPS) please confirm if they have those issues as well or are those defect panels?
How is the responsive time (ghosting) of the FHD panels? Not for gaming but smooth transitions like scrolling in webpages (i am a webdeveloper).
    Pictures of door effect?

Ultrasharp owner and interface/web designer here. The panel isn't perfect, but it's acceptable. I'm also considering replacing it with a better Samsung one - something you can't do with an XPS 15/5510.

I've not seen any reports of yellow tint for our screen, but I easily may have missed it. For me personally, the major issue is the screen door effect that others have previously mentioned. It's more visible on certain colors than others, but it can be distracting. Personally I have no issue with the contrast, and reviews I've read on the panel reflect the same experience. On the page previous to this one, I've linked to a notebookcheck review of an Asus laptop that uses the same panel as ours: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-N552VX-FY103T-Notebook-Review.161311.0.html

    Some stats from the review:

    - 88% sRGB coverage (I measured 89%)
    - 988:1 contrast ratio (I measured 607:1)
    - 26ms black to white response time
    - 42ms grey to grey response time

They don't mention the SDE issue, but everything else is pretty spot on with what I've experienced. I actually prefer this panel to the one in my M3800 - a 3200x1800 IGZO panel. That screen had a really prominent yellow color tint when looked at from an angle whereas the 7510's Ultrasharp does not.

The SDE appears very prominently on the blue, but not on the yellow, whites or grey.

For the most part. At normal distance it's a tinge noticable if I'm wearing my glasses.

Wow, so it is a lottery then. I would've preferred the AUO panel myself. Each and every LG panel I try makes me less enthusiastic about their displays. My main monitor is an AUO AHVA panel and I love it.

From a specification standpoint, the AUO should be just a hair better than the LG in color gamut and contrast. I've not heard of any issues with screen door effect either.

Does your screen have any screen door effect like the image I posted above? I'm going to assume not, but doesn't hurt to ask!

To be honest, I had to google that "screen door effect", as I didn't really understand what it is... If I look really close to the screen, ofc I see pixels, but it's not as bad as on your pic. Screen is VERY bright (I never set it higher than 70%), contrast is good. I didn't notice any serious blurring or colour shifts. The only thing I didn't like about my screen - too "warm" colour temp.

You are so lucky man. My worst problem, on the contrary, is its brightness. Mine is ultrasharp ips model too, but very low brightness. Along with the yellow tint defect (maybe the "warm" you mentioned) I'' totally frustrated. Wondering whether I can ask Dell for an exchange or technical support on this?

    Screen-Door Effect - Comparison.jpg
    Hi Div033,

I have a Dell 7510 with an LG panel and I would say sitting about 18" from the screen I don't see the Screen Door Effect unless I've got my nose right close to the screen.

For a comparison - I also have an Asus N56JN laptop with a Samsung panel and I don't really see any difference between that and the Dell 7510.

As an experiment, I used the Snipping Tool to capture a small area of the same webpage you showed from both my Asus and Dell laptops. I used Photoshop to blow it up by 600% and compared them side by side ... I dunno but I don't see any real difference. Here's the results side by side ... One snip shows a reddish advertising banner, the other an orange banner. That banner was changing on the web page so it doesn't indicate a color shift or anything weird like that.

To me they both look pretty much the same whether really close to the screen or at a normal viewing distance
