Two other users reported that changing the BIOS boot mode to fast boot made their nvidia appear. Did you try that?

Yes, that did the trick. I saw in another thread somebody suggested that, a few minutes after I made this post.

Does anyone know what this does?
According to the documentation it is supposed to be a "contactless fingerprint reader" but on my system it doesn't seem to do anything.
(thanks to oruvin for the image I borrowed from above).

That is a NFC smart card reader.

Transponder type card (NFC in this case) -- means you just lay a card over that and it senses it....vs. Magnetic strip type card that goes in the slot. Used for security measures to further authenticate logins. google "smartcard"

Or you can use your Smartphone with NFC to share content. Or load info from your Passport (if it has built in chip).

cool. I could've used that, if it works with android. I don't remember that being an option on the USA config website. I only remember smartcard reader slot; smartcard with fips, or... smartcard with fingerprint reader. Nothing about NFC. I wish I had that now though.

For future purchaser knowledge. Get that NFC option or whatever they market it as, if you care about such.

It works with Android (aka Android Beam), not sure about iPhone etc.

In my order that option was:
346-BBRE Palmrest With NFC/ Smartcard Reader/ Fingerprint Reader

And it's strange as I've checked US Dell's website, and it doesn't say anything about NFC:
On the UK website we have following options:

    Capt.Gil and ygohome like this.
