TB3 daughterboard is a good thought - thanks for the reply. If true, there won't be any chance to omit it. But, like you say, it's a cheap option with no real aesthetic impact...

Regarding 1) above, my 7510 should be delivered by Tuesday and I will be installing a Samsung 950 Pro. I will report back with any issues I face, but from my understanding the heat problem was fixed here and was more of a problem in the OEM branded SM951.

Has anyone experienced any coil whine with this machine? I come from an M3800 which, while overall a great device, has given me night terrors due to the scathing, faint yet certainly audible scratching of the power delivery system. I am debating selling my M3800 and grabbing one of these as I'm decidedly done with thin and light workstations.

I have the IGZO UHD display on a new M7510 and temps midway between the Dell logo and hinges (on either side) just below the base of the screen are running around 108F based on an IR temp gun. Temps drop into the 80s as you get to the outside edge of the display.

Considering to order this, but still debating on which resolution to go, FHD or IGZO UHD. Anyone here has the chance to compare difference between them side by side? In case of the UHD, is it neccesary to go along with a M2000 card, or just M1000 is decent?

Good question - I'm wondering about that too. In the old days, we had to be really careful about selecting graphics cards - needed to be able to drive the desired resolution, color depth, refresh rates, etc.. Now, with graphics cards so powerful, I don't know if that's as much of a concern these days. Maybe gamers still need to sweat those details, but the rest of us? In this specific case, is the M1000 card too weak for the IGZO UHD display?

FWIW - the only Quadro card available for the Precision 5510 is the M1000. No one over in the 5510 forum seems to have an issue with the IGZO UHD using the M1000, other than the rate at which that combination drains the battery.

I've seen both displays, and for me there wasn't a dramatic difference in the "clarity" of the displays from a day to day usage standpoint.
What drove the decision in favor of the UHD for me was that fact that the UHD covers 100% of the Adobe color gamut for professional graphics work.
If you don't have a use case requirement for that level of color accuracy, the FHD is the less expensive choice and gives you the option of a touch screen if you so desire.
And with the FHD you may get better battery life when unplugged, although I'm not sure about the FHD w touch vs the UHD.

I'm experiencing the same issue on my 7710 with Nvidia M4000m not showing up. It's not an OS issue. It doesn't show in BIOS, in the diagnostics, or during post. Like you encountered, disabling switchable graphics will render your computer useless until you reset the BIOS by removing the battery. The machine passed tests during the assembly process because since no card was detected, no tests were performed on the discrete GPU.

I had to take the palmrest and keyboard off to verify that there was even a card installed, sure enough it was there. There are two others on the 7710 thread that had this same issue. Dell is suggesting to replace the motherboard and GPU at the same time.

What was the outcome with your machine?
