If you intend to use Linux on the P50, it generally works ok as long as you do not need to use an external display with the laptop. Choose the M1000M GPU as the M2000M is reported to have issues currently with the nvidia binary driver.

As noted above Lenovo has a panel lottery and there is a chance you will get either a lower gamut (45% NTSC) LG IPS display or higher gamut (72% NTSC) Samsung IPS display.

The P50 also has a soldered GPU rather than using a MXM slot as the 7510 does. It also does not have any AMD GPU options available.

If you do end up purchasing a model and are in the US, search reddit or slickdeals for the lenovo corporate perks store, which has 30% off the P50 currently.

    Just an FYI.
Dell delivered this system yesterday, one day earlier than originally scheduled.
I haven't done the system setup yet, but this M7510 appears to be configured exactly as ordered.
I'll let everyone know how the setup goes and what the initial benchmark test results show.

Glad to hear you got that sorted out! It may be worth following up and asking for a warranty extension for all the delays - it worked for me.

Thank you all for the great insights!

I called customer support, who told me that the financial team put on hold and later cancelled my order (the order is a purchase order through our university). Then I contacted our sale rep who covers our university, he is on the case and I'm waiting for response. I love the machine based on this thread and other information, but the purchase experience SUCKS!

Thanks to win32 for the tip of discount. Unfortunately, our universIity has a contract with Dell and I have go through that only route (dell premier) to do all the purchasing, which give about 10% discount. I wish I could do a personal purchase, then get reimbursed, but I was told it's not allowed. And the dell premier thing is the only way to buy Dell machines through the university. In addition, if I want to buy any lenovo product, I can't direct order from lenovo, instead I have to go through CDW-G (which I never heard of before) with pre-configuration and the contract price (tops 10% discount). My first business machine purchase, man, lots of bureaucratic. Now I understand how Dell makes money with biz clients... Lots of BS...

Well, I'm glad to hear that your old screen is still working! I'm super paranoid that my screen is going to be fried after a year or two (or whenever the warranty runs out). At any rate, I think you're right about the amount of heat depending on brightness. I don't have a thermometer handy, but I would guess that it gets to about 110 degrees at full brightness.

Can the rest of you guys do me a favor? After you've been using your 7510 for a while, stick your finger in between the Dell logo and the right hinge, and tell me if you can feel any heat coming from the front (LCD side) of the screen assembly. I'm wondering if this is an isolated case, or if others have the same issue.

    @buffgato 110 degree? I hope you don't mean Celsius :D
(I didn't measure either, but it's still touchable)

Who did you ask for an extension? Your sales rep? Did you just straight up ask for it?

I bought pro support plus 3 years but I think Dell could offer 4-5 years to cover the over two week delay. As someone else said, Dell's purchasing experience has sucked! I almost gave up and bought an HP.

I've never seen a company that has made it so difficult to hand over 4.5 grand. Most people would bend over backwards to ensure the purchase exerience went smoothly.

It was a while back, but I believe I was just chatting with sales support and complaining about the many delays. This was actually before I ever received the machine, so as the delays built up I was first able to get next day shipping upgraded for free and I made Dell apply a coupon that hadn't existed when I placed my order. After more delays I complained some more and they offered the warranty extension.

My M4800 has been solid so far but I'm sort of hoping it dies just before the warranty ends so I can get a 7520/7530 or something as a replacement.

Hi 7510 owners: I've been following the threads here with great interest. I think I've read all posts but have not seen the following question asked yet:

    1) for the 1 or 2 people who have mentioned installing a Samsung 950 Pro SSD in the M.2 slot, have you noticed any stability problems that might be attributable to overheating? The 950's are known to run hot, and I'm a bit concerned that the confines of the laptop form-factor may make this problem even worse.

    2) for those of you with the 4K IGZO display, which graphics card did you order? I don't know if the 4Gb Nvidia is really needed to drive this display, and I don't want the cost or the TDP if it's not necessary. I won't be doing high-end video editing or gaming with this machine. Are recent owners (like Feb-Mar) happy with this display? Seems the early adopters (Dec-Jan) had very mixed experiences with it.

    3) does anyone know why Dell mandates that a smartcard reader be configured when choosing certain CPUs (eg, 6920HQ)? Surely that must be a marketing bundle as opposed to a technical requirement of the CPU. Has anyone successfully deleted the smartcard option by ordering offline?

    Thanks for any feedback.

I think the smartcard is on (or tightly integrated with connectors and traces) with that side daughter board containing the thunderbolt 3 port. When ordering TB3 it requires also getting smartcard reader. Why it is only on TB3 daughter board and not the non-TB3 is odd but they probably had their reasons.

My older precision m6500 used transponder type smartcard reader which didn't require a visible card slot. It was required back when I configured it too. I never used it, and I'll probably never use the reader on my new precision either. At least it doesn't look bad.
