Precision 7510 Owner's Thread

Did you intend to order the 7510 with RAID 1 (= mirroring)?

With RAID 1 you only have 512 GB of total disk space. With RAID 0 (= striping) you would have 1 TB of total disk space.

If it's protection against data loss in case of a disk failure you're after, then RAID 1 is the correct choice.

If it's speed and/or a large volume you're after, then RAID 0 would have been the correct choice.

Of course, you can always change the type of RAID later on, but you will need to reinstall the operating system and drivers afterwards.

With a Dell 2414H monitor and two locks it cost $4,3xx including Washington state tax and next day shipping.

Yes, I intended for RAID 1. The drives are plenty fast enough and I don't require more than 200-300 GB of space so Raid 0 didn't make sense. I do require high availability though so Raid 1 did make sense.

I require such high availability that I store a system image and Windows file history on a off site drive for quick access to rebuild my machine in case something should go wrong.

Order is still in preproduction with a delivery date of March 1st.

 

What do you did with the old one? Return it back? They refunded you the money?

Will the Xeon chip drain the battery faster than the HQ options?

Just wondering - as was thinking of using Xeon for ECC RAM...

Anyone able to compare them each against each other for battery life?

Or are there any reviews/specifications which state this somewhere?

Is Win 10 even stable itself yet?

With all the updates changing things around, all my tries to upgrade old machines were fruitless, so although I do like the GUI, I am waiting a bit longer for the OS to mature significantly...

 

I ordered it with Win 10 pro but I'm going to blow that away and put on a customized Win 10 Enterperise image through pxe boot that's required by my IT department.

Still in preproduction with an arrival date of 3/1. Once I receive my Dell rewards I'm going to order the Dell Thunderbolt dock as well. I'll update you on both as I receive them.
