I haven't been able to find any review or any information about this laptop. Especially the battery life. Does anyone have any indication about the battery life of this machine? Even Dell is not giving any usable information about this laptop.

I returned my laptop because I had some problem with it and now waiting for the thunderbolt to reorder.

I had the i7, 8gb RAM, 1080p touchdcreen, M1000M, 91Wh battery, back lit keyboard, 5GB HDD (plan on upgrading to samsung SSD instead of dell upgrade).

I really like the keyboard. I feel great and responsive. I don't use the home and end keys much so I don't have issue with them as mentioned by others on previous posts.

The built of this laptop to me is high quality. The feel nice and sturdy enough.

The screen was also very good and saturated with very nice colors. It has a "real" look to me (can't really explain it).

As for the battery, I had about 4hrs of extensive use solving medium size model (300,000 nodes) for finite element analysis using up to 90-95% of both the CPU and RAM (8gb). As for regular Web surfing, reading documents, watch a few short youtube videos (8 to 10min) here and there, I had about 7 to 8hrs. My screen brightness was about 30% though.

The fans are very quiet even under heavy load with solving the finite element analysis as mentioned above. They idle at very low speed and rarely come on at high speed. Even at high speed, they didn't sound like those highpitch sounds like my old XPS.

The laptop is normal cool under light loads. As for heavy load, it feel a little warm and wasn't hot to me. That's after 4hrs of continuous use solving the analysis. I was quite surprised.

For the speakers, the crisp treble is not there if the laptop is on your laps. If it is on a flat table, you can sound the treble alot better because the speakers sound reflect back off the flat solid surface. They don't sound bad at all. They are loud to me but I don't listen to anything that loud anyway so this is subjective. The lows are not there with these speakers due to the lack of the subwoofer. My old XPS 15 L502x has JBL speakers with a subwoofer and they sound awesome. If I would give my old laptop sound quality a 10, I'll give the precision a 6 or 7 due to the placement of the speakers and lacks ofthe lows.

So in summary, I wasn't too happy with the sound itself and the weight but giving all of the other qualities, I'm going to get this laptop again. I really like the keyboard with the num keys (I think they are spaced okay and not bad at all), excellent cooling system, and pretty good battery life. Hope this help.

Thanks for the great review! You mentioned exactly the points I was looking for.

I had an XPS 16 in the past. It was (and still is) one of the best looking laptops. The heat management however was horrendous. Even light browsing would make the fans roar. That was my last Dell.

I think the new XPS's have the same heat management problems. For serious work like development, virtual machines and such I think the fans would be roaring a lot of the time.

I have been with Lenovo for the last 2 years. Great machines. The heat management is top notch and the keyboard is the best in the market. Around 8 hours battery. Not much of a looker. Decent high dpi screen. My current machine has a busted screen because I dropped it on the screen itself.

The 7510 is one of the best looking machines as a workstation it seems. Combined with the 6th generation CPU's, 4K display and m.2 ssd's it was a better choice than a new Lenovo for me. Lenovo is still stuck at the 4th generation CPU's. If the 7510 has the same strong points as the Lenovo (battery life & noise) then it is definitely a better choice.

I'll wait and see. I have a long time to wait due to the long delivery times that Dell has had since ages.

The Lenovo P50 and P70 are coming that have 6th gen Intel and almost everything the new Precision have specwise and Lenovo P50 and P70 seem lighter. I was in the middle of the two but settled for the Precision. I think you should look into them more and take your pick.

I knew they were coming but at the moment only the P70 is available. Since my current laptop is limping I have to have something within 4 weeks. From what I have seen the P50 will be equal spec-wise. I still think that the Dell looks nicer.

After Dell refused to address an incorrect shipment (misconfiguration) and the one they sent failed to turn on after only one successful boot, I finally settled for a refund.

Now have a P50... you can purchase them from some retailers, such as NewEgg. Just can't configure your own yet. While I wish the Dell would have worked out, I'm happy to have a new Xeon laptop with Sky Lake.

You can configure it in BIOS from 5 seconds to 1 minute to 30 minutes to always on, and configure separately for plugged in and battery.

The Dell return consumer service that addressed by issue was professional. I think it's all depend on who is helping for each call.

The cost for Levono P50 on newegg seems high for the equivalent specs of a Precision 7510 but that may be correct.

There are no "heat management issues" with these machines. As far as the XPS series is concerned, the Precision 5510 is identical hardware-wise with the corresponding XPS. I bought my daughter one of these, and you will not hear a fan coming on when doing "light browsing". No heat management issues of any kind with those, either.
