I also posted this in the m7710 forum as well.

Has anyone heard if the M7510s will be compatible with external GPUs connected via the thunderbolt port? It would be nice if Dell implemented this but I have to wonder if they would due to it slowing down future sales.....

Shouldn't matter if Dell supports it, it is a standard Thunderbolt port and you can hook up any Thunderbolt device you like, including an external GPU enclosure.
(Now, I don't think anyone here has actually tried it yet...)

AFAIK the bios has to support it.

You are describing the exact same problems I have/had with mine. See my earlier posts where I'm describing these problems.

The sleep/hibernate issues were somewhat resolved by replacing the motherboard. Eventually I just received a new unit.

The screen is just rubbish. I have the exact same problem with the gradient colors.

In truth: 4k is unusable for me at the moment. The scaling in both Windows and inside the Virtual Machine is not working correctly. Windows will go crazy as soon as you disconnect and connect to another screen. The virtual machine will not scale. I'm looking to switch back to FHD or 3K.

I'm now looking for a replacement screen for my old Lenovo T540P (it fell and the screen broke). I think I'm going back to that laptop. My HQ4700 was just as fast as my current 6820hq. The battery was far better on the Lenovo with that older generation CPU! The 3k screen is in my opinion better that the 4k screen on the 7510. It is also more usable. The only downside is that there is no m.2 slot but I don't see a lot of difference with an SSD. Only when I let my VM's sleep I can see the virtual memory file being written with 900MB. I can live with the SSD speeds.

System board replaced today, did not fix fingerprint reader issue. Dell wants to "depot" the machine and fix it themselves... So it will be out of my possession for 3-5 days.

I'm switching back to my M4800 so that I can send the machine off to them for the fix. I will put a clean Windows install on the 7510 for them to mess with.

My new panel is arriving today but I am going to put the original panel back in for shipping to Dell (just to make sure I don't lose the good one if they end up swapping systems or something). It looks like it will be a little while before I get to try it out.

To those that have been buying Dells longer, do the choices of parts stay the same during the period a model sold? For example, will more GPU choices be available down the road?

The reason I ask is because Nvidia is going to be releasing their Pascal series soon., will it be worth to wait?

Dell does not change available GPUs mid-generation. New GPUs always come with new models. We won't see Precision 7520 until a few months after Intel's Kaby Lake CPUs are out, that's probably when Pascal mobile Quadros will be made available. I'd say March-April 2017 would be a fair guess for the timeframe, that's just me guessing, but I have been watching this for a while.

NVIDIA knows this is how it works, HP and Lenovo operate the same way and the three of them tend to launch workstation refreshes around the same time. This means getting a Pascal-based mobile Quadro through a third-party source won't be possible until right before the new systems launch. We had to wait a long time before Maxwell mobile Quadros to became available, because Maxwell launched during the period of time when Intel was having trouble getting Broadwell CPUs to market, and all of Dell, HP, and Lenovo did not refresh their workstations until Skylake was ready.

It might be possible to get a Pascal-based mobile GeForce card earlier. Some people have successfully installed a GeForce card in a Precision, but only the larger 17" model.

Dell sometimes adds a new high-end GPU to the stack, if NVIDIA releases one (they did this for the Precision M6500) so it is possible that we will see the newer Quadro M5500M in the Precision 7710 at some point.

waiting for my ordered baby (in production at the moment) are there any preparations I can do?
e.g. download all latest drivers ? does this makes sense?

Is there a lot of bloatware installed on the delivered machine ? should I reinstall a clean W10?
What do you usse to make a first complete backup of the notebook?

    thanks in advance!

Did a fresh Windows 10 install in anticipation of sending the machine to Dell to fix the fingerprint reader... And the fingerprint reader works great on the fresh install. Definitely software issue (as I suspected). Strange that the device doesn't even show up in Device Manager (even as a unknown/missing device) on my original install.

Now having trouble on my original install getting Dell ControlVault to reinstall. Will fight with it when I have more time.

New display installed. Although I ordered a LP156WF6-SPB5, they sent me a LP156WF6-SPB1. Whatever... Maybe it was just mislabeled for sale. In any case, the new display seems good at first glance, no dead pixels, no screen door, none of the issues I had from the AU display. Tentatively satisfied, we'll see after I've used it for a while.
