Where did you happen to buy the screen?

I also decided to go for one, off Amazon, from a seller East Coast LCDs. The screen I received had the bright edge problem, which certainly isn't normal. I have a feeling they have a bad batch. Funny part is when I explained my issue to them, they claimed it was because the screen wasn't compatible... which made me lol. I shipped it back yesterday, so they're still giving me a refund. Still, their process was a bit ridiculous.

Also, the screen you probably received as the B156HAN01.1 as the .2 is glossy. They had it mislabeled. Anyway, I probably won't try that panel again.

I also tried another Samsung, LTN156HL02-201 which still used PWM on all dimmed brightness levels, but at a higher frequency. This might have been fine, but the panel exhibited horrible motion blur, so it also went back. The only other Samsung I'd try at this point is the LTN156HL02-001 but I fear it will possess the same qualities as the 201, so I won't try it for now.

At this point I've contacted Dell about receiving a replacement LG panel which they've agreed to and will ship it once it's off backorder (the 26th). Hoping the screen door effect isn't present on the replacement. Alternatively I've thought about trying a later revision of the LG panel off ebay, LP156WF6-SPB5, but will wait on my replacement and refunds first.

Just a tip for anyone installing ecc ram on a system with a xeon CPU that originally came with non-ecc ram. Make sure when you first install the ecc ram, the amount of memory is different (i.e. if you had 32 GB of non-ecc ram, remove the the 32GB and install 16 GB of ecc ram first). If you install the same amount of ram, the ecc will not work - it will operate as standard non-ecc ram. I was pulling my hair out. I was running:

    wmic memphysical get memoryerrorcorrection

and I kept getting a value of 3 instead of 5. It was only when I changed to one stick that it finally showed as ecc (i.e. value of 5). I then installed the 2nd stick and re-ran and it still showed 5. This was the case on 2 systems..... Value meaning for running "
wmic memphysical get memoryerrorcorrection" from the command line under administrator:

    Value Meaning
    0 (0x0) Reserved

    1 (0x1) Other

    2 (0x2) Unknown

    3 (0x3) None

    4 (0x4) Parity

    5 (0x5) Single-bit ECC

    6 (0x6) Multi-bit ECC

    7 (0x7) CRC

Same here, same seller, same screen too. I initiated the return process and they're asking me for photos of the back of my old screen and new screen (the one they sent me!). I have a feeling they'll tell me the same thing. Likewise, not trying that panel again. Reviews seemed great so I was not expecting a problem.

Anyone know an actual good FHD IPS panel? :p
[Edit] Tomorrow I'll check what the panel is on one of our 5510's, it is also 1080p IPS and it seems fine.

Has anyone tried Linux on their 7510? Are there any Linux issues with optimus and external video, like screen tearing or no audio?

The 5510 uses a Sharp panel, which I've not been able to find for sale unfortunately. At this point I wouldn't mind the yellow color shift at extreme angles, as everything else is great with Sharp's screens.

I run Ubuntu Gnome 16.04, with Nvidia proprietary driver 361 (and Nvidia-prime to change graphics mode).
The only issue I experienced was display random flickering with Intel. Since last 4.4.0-23 (yesterday's proposed upate) with Intel graphics update included, the bug is solved.

No issues with external displays (incl. videos), no screen tearing (I use Intel 99 % of my time with Linux, but Nvidia seems ok). I get a cracking background noise from my speakers (nothing wrong with W7) when nothing is played and a quite strong cracking noise when audio idle (I use TLP for that). Nothing really wrong here, though.

Indeed, the 5510 I am looking at identifies the panel as Sharp SHP1453 / LQ156M1 (not sure why there are two model number looking strings).
