Many thanks to z31fanatic! Don't have a macbook pro, so that doesn't tell me much. But in combinationwith your comment that you run at 30% brightness, I guess I'm gonna risk reordering a build with the 72% gamut IPS FHD...

    Hi JH,

This is a very subjective and un-scientific bit of info but I thought maybe it might be useful.

I'm in a basement room now with incandescent lighting turned up to a moderate level. (You can easily read a book in this light without straining). My Dell Desktop has a nice scenic background photo - 3 white cruise ships lined up in port ... dark blue water ... nice sky with some white clouds. So just viewing my Desktop, I would have the Dell 7510 Brightness set to about 70%. If I open a Word document with some text on it, I would have to turn it down to about 30% or maybe 40% since my room is lit to a moderate level ... Over 40% would not be comfortable for me.

I would guess that outside in the shade on a bright, sunny day, you would need to run at 100% Brightness ... A glossy screen would likely be brighter but not worth dealing with the annoying reflections.

Just to give an idea, I have a newer Asus N56JN laptop with a Samsung panel - 1920x1080 / IPS / non-glare ... Comparing side by side with my Dell 7510, I pretty much use the exact same Brightness levels.

As I said, it's not very scientific so without the tools to actually measure the brightness levels, it's really just one person's personal preference.

Just as an aside, neither of my laptop screens (Samsung on Asus / LG on Dell) is calibrated. I noticed that Dell's LG panel has a warmer tone compared to the Samsung panel ... Sitting side by side, I prefer the LG panel on the Dell .... I just thought I'd mention that.

How are the viewing angles? Do you find that you have to set the screen at a certain angle to see everything clearly? Is it really "Wide View" as its name says on the Dell configurator?

I'm always wondering at which frequency my CPU (have the same as you) is running. I use ThrottleStop since years now. An awesome tool!
It shows you the current frequency and CPU/GPU temp as a task-bar-icon.
ThrottleStop is usually to do your own frequencies but i just run it in "monitor only" mode and let the bios/CPU/chipset driver do the rest.

    Hi Doug,

How is the intel 4352 working so far since rolling back to it? Have you had any freezing or igfx driver crashes?

I'm still on the intel 4390 driver and have been for a long while now. Last week I was getting some odd freezing of the entire OS every 20 - 30 seconds and it would last for about 10 - 15 seconds. This was while using optimas and using intel gpu. But the Nvidia Activity Notification in system tray would light up whenever the system froze. I presume the quadro was trying to take control during those moments of freezing but I don't know what it was doing since everything freezes at that moment and I was unable to check it. This sounds similar to the freezing you were having with a beta intel driver. I had not had any system or software updates prior to this freezing issue. I rebooted but same freezing every 20 - 30 seconds.

I checked nvidia control panel (which was painful because of the many freezes) and it showed that the nvidia program profiles used for program specific 3D settings had updated the previous evenning. I changed in nvidia control panel to "Let the 3D application decide" instead of using those download profiles. I rebooted again and that freezing issue has stopped. Not sure if I fixed it by ignoring those profiles or if it was simply because of the additional reboot. Event logs didn't show me anything relating to the freezing that I could see.

Anyway, we have a 2nd precision 7000 series here. It too has the 4390 but it has not had any freezing. But it has had the intel driver crash twice in the past week. I'm thinking of rolling back to 4352 as you did if you've not had any other intel gpu issues with that version. thanks

Yes, of course it's un-scientific. We all have our own preferences and our own expectations of what is good and acceptable. To me, the panel on my 7510 is very good and bright so I am satisfied with it.
