Crazy! I been going back and forth between the P70 and 7710. I'm 99% sure I will be getting the 7710 in Jan. I already have 2 x 512GB 950 Pro SSDs on hand, and 3 extra power bricks from my M6600.

Well they tout Thunderbolt 3, but then again they announced these machines a couple months before Dell, and Dell has their machines out the door first.

Also, P70 UHD panel is IPS, while 7710 is IGZO, which consumes less power while requiring less back light to maintain brightness.

    Concerns 7710:

I had a quick look at the Dell UK website and Windows 10 was not even an option. There is no way I will be buying a new laptop such as this without it having Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit pre-installed. Sometimes the differences between the US options and UK options really puzzle me.

Also may I ask - what has Dell done this time with the RAM? If you buy the system with just 8 GB (1 DIMM) 8GB, DDR4-2133MHz SDRAM, 1 DIMM, Non-ECC [Included in Price] has Dell disabled the other DIMMS or can I just take that one piece of RAM out and slot in my own up to 64GB? I ask if I were to take the Intel® Xeon® E3-1535M v5 (Quad Core 2.90GHz, 3.80GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Intel HD Graphics P530) option.

I remember on the M6600 it depended on the Processor whether I could use all 4 slots or not.

    Thanks.

Even if Win10 is not pre-installed you should be able to upgrade free.

You can put your own DDR4 SODIMM but it has to be 2133MHz. Also I believe if you use ECC it needs to be installed in pairs.

Other than that the only RAM limit I know of is if you run 32bit OS Windows Home can only address 3.5GB if RAM. I used all 4 with my M6500.

Thanks. Yes, you are right in that one can upgrade. I did with my M6600, but if I buy a 7710 I do not want to upgrade I want it to be Windows 10 from the start.

As for the RAM limit. From memory when I bought the M6600 it had to do with the processor. If you did not get the right processor only two of the four RAM slots worked.

That's why I ask the question whether one can just choose the 8 GB (1 DIMM) option in customisation and then stick 4 (4x8GB) RAM sticks in?

    Yes, it will work fine.

    Dell considers them user-upgradable components.

Figure out what processor you're interested in, and read intels documentation to see what it will support.

Yes I did. Just checked again today to see that they CANCELLED my order. Utterly miffed. Waiting in line right now to talk to them.

Something fishy is going on. Without any contact from Dell, they cancelled my two Precision orders and created two new ones with identical builds but now different order dates and different order numbers. Been on hold for 20 minutes to figure out what the deal is.
