The deal is everyone wants these 5510 and demand is greater than supply. I know this is the hot ticket now (I originally ordered but canceled and got the 7510 instead.) I bet it's better to wait till January to order... give them some time to work out the kinks, and you won't get something they rushed to slap together to ship.

You guys are having the same problem I did - no contact - order sat in limbo so I canceled it. My business rep said she also noted an extraordinary number of cancelled/reordered laptops.

I went out to BestBuy and got 3 (Christmas presents) of their maxed out XPS15 - $2229 including 1TB PCIe drive - very happy with them. Has the i7 and no Xeon and the GTX 960M card - it actually plays 4K video in realtime that is heavily color graded in Davinci Resolve (which is a resource hog). I also got the 32GB memory package from Crucial - works fine - put the laptop through the short and advanced stress tests for all systems and everything checks out ok. My "Backup Mobile Workstation" is the same as the above only with 512GB PCIe drive sent to me by Dell for replacement of my XPS15 9350 damaged by coffee spill. I used it for testing since the other 3 are gifts for the kids.

I had the order cancellation with no warning dance happen to me with my M4800. I think it's related to parts shortages and some guaranteed delivery time for orders - rather than fail on this metric, they sneakily cancel the order and make a new one to push the delivery date out.

Call/twitter/email and complain, and demand another 10% off.

Did complaining get additional discounts? Can this be done online since I need to purchase on Dell site to get CC offers?

When my M4800 was delayed, I asked for and received a retroactive discount, and an additional year of warranty.

After having an M3800 for a few weeks, then returning it because of the famous coil-whine, I am now yet again looking at a Dell Precision notebook. The one that fits me best seems to be the 3510, but I would really need to be able to upgrade to 32GB RAM.

Dell-Mano_G, do you know if there is a "true" 16GB limit on the 3510, or if it is just the temporary shortage/unavailability of 1x16GB DDR4 modules that limits the configurations now?

    Thanks,
    Adam

I haven't seen Dell-Mano on this website for some time but I also have a question for him should he "reappear". I just got off chat with Small/medium business and they are telling me the configurator that will allow the Thunderbolt 3 port option will not be available until the third week of January which effectively means no units will ship until February with this option. Is that correct or could we see units being received by customers in January (probably late January at the earliest)?

Yes they are correct, the Thunderbolt 3 systems should be available for purchase "around" the 3rd week of Jan.
