Yes, a number pad would have been great on this one. I also agree on the battery light indicator, there could've just been two extra USB ports there instead. The first generation M3800 had total 4 USB ports.

But still, if they can manage to prevent this system from throttling then this is the laptop of the year.

The 7510 look promising too, I want to know the weight of that one.

 

Not everyone wants a number pad; from an ergonomic perspective, I find it problematic to have the keyboard and touchpad off-center -- it was my least favorite thing about my E6530, and when I had to return it to my employer much preferred the E6430 I bought to replace it despite the smaller screen (specs were otherwise identical.)

I'm leaning towards the 7510, despite the keypad and not because of it; my M3800 has been way, way too fragile (especially the power jack) and it looks from the pictures like the 5510 uses very similar construction. Also, I really miss the physical ethernet port.

I might even look at the 7710, if they've gotten the weight down enough and if the GPU upgrades don't break the bank.

 

... and Thunderbolt 3 has USB 3.1 inside as well. I think that most owners of 5510 will buy Dell's compact port replicator as well.

Actually, I like its position. Will be easy to check battery level when laptop is in the bag or when the lid is closed.
And why do you need it on top? If laptop is on - you can easily check battery life at system tray.

From the other hand, I expected two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Looking over the ports, one thing I noticed is that the ExpressCard/Smartcard slot is gone. I didn't use those, but I know some audio professionals hooked up Firewire-connected audio devices with an ExpressCard adapter. Guess everyone has to get used to Thunderbolt.

Oh, and no VGA. That might be known already but I didn't realize it until now. That's still used to connect to projectors (though projectors have been mostly moving to HDMI for a while). Gotta start carrying a dongle.

I noticed that the LED display indicators (power / battery / HDD activity) have been moved to the front of the system.

 

Just got news that the launch has been postponed until the 27th. Was supposed to be today.

 

That's to give them time to change that idiotic keyboard layout on the 7710 to something that makes a minimal amount of sense, right? Right?

 

Mano, which panel types (TN, VA, IPS) are used for FHD and UHD?

The FHD are matte and the UHD are glossy, right?

 

I second this. Keyboard was a major deciding factor for me when I was shopping for a workstation two years ago.

 

Yep, I, too, use the USB at the back to connect an external drive.
