Just wondering why when I go to Dells website I cannot configure the m6800 that I want? The options look very limited. Also since there are a lot of experts on this board wondering if I can load 64gigs of ram into the m6800? I know there are only 4 open slots but can I find 4x16 dims to get to 64gigs? Need it for finite element analysis. Currently have a m6600 and the simulations are taking about 65 hours complete. Most of time is the cpu crunching numbers and it's going to interesting how much faster these new processors are.

    thanks in advance.

Current system is the M6600 with 32gigs of ram, 250 SSD and 512 SSD, Intel Extreme 2nd Generation.

My customisations are a few pages back. But not of the shelf. I also ditched the touch screen for my second order as they have had manufacturer delays with them.

I always order through my Dell rep instead of online. But it would be good to see all the options avaliable.

I just checked the dimensions on the 240W adapter, and it is huge, even bigger then the 180W the m4800 shipped with. I don't get it as it mentions 'Slim' in it's title and is most expensive. It's a bit thinner, but overal a lot bigger...
I don't have the option to plant an adapter everywere I go, so it might be my only option.

Did anyone mention the sound yet, the speakers produce quite an ok sound, loud and full/clear. I was surprised.

I would guess because they're not ready yet.
No. 32GB is the current mobile system supported limit.
Compared to an adapter from a MBP yes. Relative to its previous iteration, its small. Keep in mind we're taking 240W. So compare apples to apples.

Apples to bricks. Though I was comparing the 240W to the original 180W that is smaller but does not sport the 'SLIM' label.
Anyhow, ended ordering the 240W as I found 1 cheap at 35Euro incl. shipping.

The slim label is only about the thickness. The idea being that even though it is a brick, a thin brick will fit much better in a laptop bag than a thick one. The 240W adapter is larger and wider, true, but for transport, thickness is the real killer.

A good place to find cheap 240W adapters is eBay. They are the same for M6600, 6700 and 6800 I would venture so getting a used one for cheap is easy, getting a new one for less than what Dell charges is easy enough too.

I got mine from eBay for about $40 each, no issues well over one year later. Just make sure they specifically call it new and genuine Dell, there's a lot of compatible off-brand versions out there, and whenever I've grabbed one of those in the past I've been disappointed in the quality.

Do a search for the previous 17" Precision adapter which was the PA-7E 210W one and it will be immediately clear where the "Slim" comes from (SPOILER: it's roughly the same size, but almost twice as thick). So, they use the "Slim" to differentiate it from the old one.
