What's the voltage on those. Also, I wouldn't even dare use that with a Precision, the 240W adapter on the M6700 is there for a reason (the laptop can draw a lot of power). If you have one of the less powerful configs, I think you could get away with 180 W, but forget 90 W.

A 90W will work but you will get (severely?) reduced performance.

See Bokeh's M6600 review for information on how the laptop behaves with various power adapters. (Ctrl+F for "How big is this power adapter?" to find the appropriate section.)

The 240W adapter is rather large. I personally just bought a few extra 240W adapters so that I can leave one at the office and a couple at home, so as not to have to lug the thing around.

I will have to check the 90W performance on the M6800. You might be able to get most of the CPU performance with a smaller adapter and a fully charged battery, but once anything else like the GPU is using power, you will not have enough supply. Battery charging with the system off should be the same, with the system running it will be much slower to charge.

The 90W is the smallest adapter that will charge the battery on the M6700, not sure about the M6800.

Probably need to use thorttlestop so the cpu will work at full speed (at least for sandy and ivy), else everything throttle when it detect a lower watt adapter.

I use a 90w adapter without problems (except battery is almost not loading when the laptop runs), but I get a Dell message box that I should at least use a 130w adapter, so that sounds like a supported option from Dell.

I always thought that if a workstation can run in battery mode for a couple of hours or more on a 95Wh battery, a 90W power supply should be able to sustain the same mode of operation indefinitely, or alternatively recharge the battery when such laptop is in standby or turned off. I understand that the machine in battery mode is throttled down, but it is better than nothing when your power option are limited (such as in a plane where getting power for a 90W power supply is already borderline).

Bad luck, my second order flew through. Went from order received to shipped in 4 days, and that was over the weekend... not going to celebrate yet though, you never know.

What model & configuration did you order? Was it a pre-configured system?
