My m4800 actually feels solid. Can't recognise the flex problem, must have light fingers.
Only flaw is optical drive making noises. And since I've not yet done any real work on it I'm surprised the fans have been on full speed while I'm away from the laptop.
Might be the laptop getting used to a new home, hehe.

Seriously? I guess it's ongoing issue since Mx600 versions or even earlier.

I pressume that is what it sounds like full on. My non mobile workstation (also Dell) makes less noise.
Another thing I now noticed is that a full battery will do 4 hours. Sounds different then what I read on the Dell site..
How can I check if it actually is the 9 cell battery I bought? Can only find it's an 'Enhanced' Sonyo battery.

Still I'm actually quite positive, system runs solid, feels solid.

update: and it really likes to render!

I writing to SSD a big battery consumer?

Just updated the Samsung 840 EVO firmware and can confirm that even with RAID-0 it is as easy as:
    - create a bootable USB stick from the samsung firmware iso
    - reboot
    - change SATA mode from RAID to AHCI
    - boot from USB
    - drives are found and flashed one after the other, but said it didn't succeed.
    - reboot
    - system hanged, turn off with holding power button a few seconds, turn on
    - boot from USB
    - checked that the firmware was updated, even if told otherwise
    - reboot to change AHCI to RAID mode
    - rebooted to a running Windows without any data loss.

I use SSD in RAID0 in my PC and can't justify it for real-life usage unless you move a lot of data between disks daily.

Can I ask why you've gone RAID0 instead of RAID1?

I admit I did it just to check if these crazy MB/s transfers are that cool :)

Hibernate/Resume is faster and snapshotting or cloning VMs as well.

I find it convenient as well not having to think about where to put the VMs but having all disk space on one volume, so that c:\vms is the place to go.

A bit unhappy with the touchpad drivers. The touchpad seems to offer lot more functions than shown in the UI.

And there is one thing on by default which I do not like: Pressing ctrl increases pointer speed. But while using ctrl to multi select files in windows explorer it is just inconvenient when the mouse gets faster while selecting additional files or folders.

Does anybody know some registry settings to control stuff which is not in the UI?

I found hklm and hkcu\software\alps\apoint with quite some settings but none was named with ctrl or accelerate.

Just installed an optical bay caddy with new hdd in it, restarted windows a few time, but it does not show up. Should I do anything else. The manual does not actually explain this at all.

update: fixed, and now the optical drive sound is gone... Somehow the system is alot more silent now aswell, don't hear it most of the time. Just when I put it to rendering.

Just for clarification these ODs/fans are mechanical devices which means there will be some sound. However, being able to hear the device and it sounding like an old clunker coming up the street are two different things.

When you make this comment, it might help if you give a comparison and not just a general statement. What is it being compared to...a previous model? What does anyone mean by "noise"?

This made me hesitant when choosing the outgoing model and it turned out to be of no consequence as far as I'm concerned.

If it is the same sound as with my DVD drive in my m6800 than it sounds like the DVD drive tries to search for a DVD even though nothing is in the slot and nothing was put in.

It is not depending on if I sit typing at the m6800 or have it running alone next to me. Every now and then the DVD drive seems to search a media.
