Just unpacked my m4800, I had ordered back in september the 19th.

Ready to install my software and hdd. And already the optical drive is irritating me alot, makin a sound every minute...

It's the qhd+ configuration with Quadro k2100m, 16 gig and 256GB SSD. I will now add a 1TB travelstar HDD. It's my first mobile workstation so I hope it fits my needs.(3d animation and illustration)
I'll update to share my my thoughts, first I need to get that optical drive out..

Also should I be installing any additional drivers or is it ready to go as it comes?(I'm not to technical..)

A friend of mine owns an M6700 with 3940xm, K5000 and 16gigs of ram. I think it is like $3k $4k configuration with that video card and cpu, mayve even more not sure, was given from work so no big deal but..... This laptop did not feel like an expensive top of the line machine at all.... The top cover is made out of some thin sheet of plasticity metal looking thing which is extremely prone to scratches and it flexes almost 2/10 ths of an inch under little pressure. Keyboard flex is about 1 10th of an inch and is unacceptable for the most expensive laptop Dell makes. The plastic that covers around the keyboard is very low quality. I also did not like the matte screen, it looked too matte I mean almost taking away from the brightness of the screen.
Don't get me wrong, I love what is under the hood and I actually want to get one my self in the form of an M6800 and I was hoping some of these issues were addressed, but it looks like M6800 is shipping under the same casing as the M6700....

This thing feels like a Camaro Z28. A chevy, really fast but the interior is very low quality and old....

The stock image is ready to go. There is probably one or two software trial that you'll want to get rid of, but that's it. I was surprised by how clean the stock install on a Precision is.

@Andyk5, when you say the top cover, do you mean the part where you have the silver Dell logo, because that is actually metal. I don't experience any flex on my keyboard, but you're not the first one to report flex. Mine hasn't scratched so far either despite a few incidents involving rings and keys.

So has anyone got impressions of the super high-res screen of the m4800, or even better, pictures? I'm dying to see/hear more about it!!

It truly does look like this is just about the last laptop out there made with a traditionnal keyboard. I know I must eventually get one, or an upcoming revision.

New Audio drivers and the occasional clicking sound is gone.

Freefall sensor has a new driver as well. Not sure what it fixed.

The dvd clicking is still there.

Even bios a01 is now pulled. While that is the bios my m6800 came with.
Do not risk to update to a02, which was downloadable a few days ago.
No information why it was pulled and what issues it should fix.

Bokeh had some time with it and said it was good. a tad over 100% sRGB, very low DeltaE once calibrated.

Yes, I am talking about the part that you can see when the lid is closed. Massive flex there and on the keyboard right by the numpad.
I am currently using a Latitude E6410 and sorry to say that the build quality on my laptop is superior to my friends M6700. I have 0 keyboard or a top cover flex and everything feels rock solid. It almost has an older Macbook Pro feel to it as far as the solidness and robustness. My friends M6700 feels like there is a lot of empty space under thin plastic, almost hollow. I like tight, compact and solid, M6700 is not. Maybe you need to fill it with 3 mechanical hard drives and full 32 gigs of ram to feel like that, I don't know.

I get the feeling that it's more of a build tolerance issue, they'd likely need to be overall tighter to get a better consistency between units and a feel like that of the Elitebook 8770w which honestly feels a tad more solid than the M6700, but good luck custom ordering an Elitebook workstation in Canada.

Agreed, my co worker has a pretty basic 8570 not even the 8770 and his computer feels really good, I mean really elite when it comes to windows based laptops. Probably the highest quality Windows laptop I ever laid my hands on. From the screen, back light containment, chassis, solidness and build material are all superior to Dell, my work does not offer it with the SSD's though which makes the choice a bit harder, so I either get a crappy casings M6700 instead of the nice HP but in return I get K5000 instead of K4000, 512SSD+750 mechanical instead of 750mechanical+750mechanical...so it is a hard choice. Also the possibility of Dell maybe implementing the extra large QHX resolution on the 17inch series is also keeping me at bay. ( They don't offer the 4700/4800 series at my work)
