I am currently using a M4800 and there are some definite quirks with the machine. Also the drivers are not listed yet which is a tad concerning. Luckily the driver disc provided with the machine had everything I needed to start up. I noticed some issues with shutting down and the machine's fan going on full blast while asleep. Could this be a driver or bios issue?

Hi and congratulations, my M4800 is on order, due for delivery end of next week.

It could be a hardware fault, have you had any advice from technical support?. I would have made that my first call...

    Cheers

Same issue I have on the m6600 in the signature. If at any point the computer goes to sleep, when woken up and upon shutdown, the fans go full force, screen turns off, keyboard still reacts and basicly it doesnt switch off completly. Have to keep the power button pressed for a forced shutdown.

Ordered an m6800 with 4800qm and FirePro m6100. Expected to arrive on 30th Sept.

I plan to put two Crucial m500 960GB SSDs inside.

Any experience or advice, pros and cons for putting them into RAID 0?

I would put Windows 8.1 and Hyper-V guests on that drive.

I have a few questions about this machine that I'm hoping you can answer. Is there any keyboard flex on the left side of the keyboard? I've read that this has been the case on earlier Precision models. I'm also curious to hear what kind of battery life you're getting out of the machine, especially if you have the 1800p IGZO display.

After using perfectly performing PowerBooks and MacBook Pros for years it is a bit disheartening to experience (and to hear of) these issues in Dell's top-of-the-line machines. Anyway, as there isn't anything much like it out there that meets my needs I guess I'm stuck here. :)

Welcome to the bleeding edge ;-)

I still would like to hear what technical support had to say when you called them?

    Cheers

    Hi folks,

Regarding M4800, there are following GPU options:

    Nvidia K1100M
    Nvidia K2100M
    AMD Firepro M5100

Quadro Mobile Workstation Graphics Cards | NVIDIA
    AMD FirePro

The Nvidias are much expensiver than the M5100, but the specs should make the M5100 an instant winner. Or is K2100M better than M5100? I dont think so...
    Thanks
    Pluto

Quadro typically out perform fire pro in cad and cuda is the gpgpu solution for most pro/industry software.

If you don't need either than fire pro definitely is a good bargain.
