Umm, then M5100 is a full cape-verde chip like M6000. Not a big upgrade from M4000 IMO.

IPS gives better viewing angles at the very least

Is it Dell or Canadian rules and regulations?
Firewire is on its death bed but its not quite dead yet. Its still used in audio equipment to communicate. And I'm pretty sure there's still a lot of folks with tape cameras where firewire is the only way out.
Only if you're a photographer or videograpaher. For them 10 bit and IPS are critical to their work. For anyone else its not something worth losing any sleep over.
    Its cheaper?

Absolutely...with the proper software. Photo and video editing programs such as Photoshop and After Effect can utilize as much RAM as you can throw at it.
The simple fact is, more is better. It all depends on how you intend to use your machine, and the software you have.

Well at this point its likely a toss up. Earlier Nvidia was the only way to go with software such as Adobe, but once that agreement ran out the now "open" system allows anyone to join the party. Which one do YOU like best?

Guys, do you know image quality parameters for the new IGZO screen, offered for M4800. Does it have 6-bit, 8-bit or 10 bit of color resolution? And what are viewing angles now?

Given that with time, the price goes down, I seriously doubt it. ALso, I'm used to seeing a difference of o to 200$ for most laptops, 800$ is seriously ridiculous.

Charging more in Canada is just a general trend that dates back to the time when the Canadian $ was weaker compared to the US $ and Canadians were used to pay more. Ever since the the difference between the currencies got smaller, prices of a lot of stuff in Canada didn't go down. Canadian are used to paying a certain amount in CAD and consumers be damned, if they can charge more and get away with it, business will. Note that I understand their point of view, but damn, I don't have to like it. Dell has been known to charge more at launch in Canada and to take their sweet time offering hardware already available in the US in Canada too. I mean with the current prices, it would likely cost me less to buy in the US through a service and then pay the custom fees to bring the notebook to Canada.

    Just saying...

If I had to take a guess, it might have to do with limited availability and Dell prioritizing the US, offer it for a higher price in Canada when supply is limited and make more money from customers who order at launch.

Also, while I complain about this, HP is worse, try to CTO an Elitebook workstation in Canada, at least with Dell it's easy to CTO a Precision.

Just tried chatting with the Live Dell Rep on the website, and they were unable to give me any timeframe for when the M4800 or M6800 would become fully customizable.

Likewise, they couldn't give me any timeframe for when the M6800 with the 8GB GPU would become available.

one of my concerns is the mSATA slot, is it 6Gb/s in M6800?
Still no thunderbolt, sigh. As usual no SPDIF, aww. No 10GBE, ugh...
