On Dell's USA site, the M5100 is not an option for the M4800, only the M4100. Where are you getting the M5100 for the M4800?

We had a better offer for two crucial m500, so we ordered those.
I think the specs are not too far off, although I saw from benchmarks that the EVOs performed a bit better.

My usage pattern would be running the OS with programs and VMs from the RAID.

All dev sources and other personal data would be on an mSata disk which I would backup on an HDD in the optical bay. So in the (rare) case of a RAID failure I would not loose two much except time to set up the OS, programs and VM backups which I take from time to time.

Maybe I try both setups when the m6800 arrives and see if it makes a noticeable difference...

No screen door effect. The pixels were not visible at all. There were no lines between them. The panel was like looking at paper in a way. Beyond what you see in an iPad or iPhone.

Viewing angles were good, but not as good as the best IPS panels.

100% of sRGB (greens are more than sRGB). 80% of AdobeRGB. 74% NTSC.

Max brightness was 409.51 cd/m2 (nits).

    Native white point is 6607K.

Overall Delta Average is 1.0. Attaching chart.

Compared to the M6700 IPS panel, this one does not have the extreme color depth. The M6700 IPS panel has RGB backlightling to get that super-wide color gamut. Compared to most WLED backlit TN or IPS panels, the Indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel in the M4800 has a better color gamut. It certainly has accurate colors when calibrated.

Is it normal that there is so less customization available for the M6800? With the M6700, we were able to choose the CPU, GPU, ram, screen... but now with the M6800 there is almost no option.

That is supposed to be temporary, but who knows how long it'll last. You may have more options by calling Dell.

If all of Dell's other models are any indication, that is the case. I had the impression that it would not happen: Precisions are Dell's "golden boys." Even if the limitations on custom builds remain, the Precisions have more options than Dell's other laptops.

Note: I don't mean that the options will remain exactly as they are now. Of course not. Dell has not added most of the CPUs, GPUs, wi-fi cards, and other accoutrements.

Anyone who has either an M4800/M6800 willing to post pics(I know the chassis is basically the same, but much like how there were slight differences between the 6600/6700, any enthusiast on here is probably eager to see, me included)??

I'm surprised we don't have an official owners thread yet for the M4800/M6800.

I also find it interesting that we can't figure it on the U.S. site, almost seems like they're doing it the Apple way, in the sense that, you start with the base processor....
