just spotted this, if it hasent been remadied allready its a graphics card fault. Had exactly the same thing happen to mine 12 months ago. Works fine on battery but on mains its crashes. It works on battery because on battery the graphics are throttled back power wise whilst on mains they are at full power, I remeber downloading a bit of software that confirmed the graphics cards power settings but I forget its name now.

They sent out 3 replacment power supplies before finally replacing the graphics card and all heatsinks.

Actually contrary to belief both the video cards available for the m6500 are better then there Geforce Counterparts in gaming benchmarks, just make sure your running up to date performance drivers. Mine is a great gamer, ARMA II runs great, BF3 decent (not enough CPU power ATM), any COD will run well, SC2 well, WOW u will max just fine, all the reacing games i have thrown at it.

I am running a budget m6500 atm aswell, with a 620m and a quadro fx2800, the 2800 is also a good overlocker, since the system was made to handle the extra TDP of the 3800 u can push the clocks on the 2800 with a decent amount of thermal headroom. Also i realize the post is old, just figured it would help anyone else with this question, since i seem to be the only person gaming on a Precision :)

A CPU question for you all, i have the 2 DIMM board (keyboard DIIMS are missing) i am wondering what my CPU upgrade options are, i would liek to get a 920xm in there since that matches my quad in my desktop atm, and that is what is killing my gaming performance on this laptop (dang console ports), currently running a 620m, from what i have read upgrading to a 720 or 740 would be a waste since those are so low clocked, so wondering i f a 920xm can run, if not, what quad core can i run? 940xm is out since th eprices on those are ridiculous (which is wierd since it's barely faster then a 920xm but cost 3 times more), any help would be apreciated.

Was wondering if anyone got the Quadro 5000M for a M6500???

I saw a machine with one advetised for sale a couple of months ago and thought it was a typo but then spotted it again on Nvidias website that this card is or was available for the M6500.

is it much of an improvement having 2GB of ram apart from bragging rights.

Has anyone installed the A08 bios? I did, and now I can't power on my laptop while plugged into AC power.

When I try, the battery light flashes pink and won't start up. As soon as I unplug, it boots up fine and then I have to plug in the AC.

Anyone else experiencing this? It only started happening after I installed A08. ???

Arma II runs great for you? On which resolution? Can't say the same for running it in 19x12 on my M6400 with the FX3700M.

As you can expect it, I installed A08 bios but I did not get any issue.

Info about my latest upgrades (if anyone is interested):

"OCZ Nocti SSD 120GB" (mSATA) (saw it in the M6600 thread) -> runs fine with my setup (AHCI)

Additionally I replaced my wifi card "Intel 5300" with an "Intel 6300" - but maybe I will try an Intel 6250 (which has WiMax) in the future.

I'm also thinking about upgrading to 32GB RAM (8GB modules are cheap at the moment). Unfortunatelly there are only 1333/CL9 modules available right now...

    Cheers,
    Alex

PS: I'm using BIOS A08 without any problems so far...

This guy has higher spec memory

    Samsung 16GB DDR3 1600 Mhz PC 12800 SODIMM laptop 8GBx2 memory ( not 4 x4GB) | eBay

is it hard to set up an msata drive as boot drive in the m6500???

Ive just flashed to the latest bios and whilst it seamed to go ok all the fans span up to full speed during the flash process which was a bit disconcerting to say the least
