They will probably give you a brand new m6600 in exchange. :)

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question, but does anyone know if it would be possible to buy an m6600, then pick up and retrofit a 16:10 LCD?

This really stinks. Dell is no longer selling the 6500, the outlet site is sold out of "refurbished" 6500s, and they went and downgraded the screen to 16:9. I really want one of these things, but it's starting to look like the ebay (used and who knows how badly abused) market is going to be my only option.

Any suggestions on where/how to get a new16:10 m6500 much welcome and appreciated!

    xPat

No it is impossible. The M6600's display assembly is physically shorter and wider than the M6500's. Therefore the M6500 screen won't even physically fit in the display assembly of the M6600.

Your best bet to get a M6500 in the newest condition you can is going refurbished from Dell Outlet.

Thanks, StarForge. That's where I've been looking, but it's been slim pickings last few days. Anyone know if there is any rhyme or reason to Dell's schedule for putting new inventory up on the Outlet website?

    Thanks,
    xPat

Nope, it is all by luck and chance.

I got mine off of an NBR member and using the Dell Warranty to get it cosmetically new again.

I don't see the relevance of this post to the poster you posted. Both of those are 16:9 screens and are not in the aspect ratio he wants. It was why he pointed out he didn't want the M6600 because the screen are all in 1080p, not 1200p.
