Looks like the m6500 is no longer on the Large Enterprise site. Only 4600 and 6600 now.

This is a real pain! I don't think I need "RGBLED". The WLED WUXGA display was $300 cheaper last time I priced them, and I think it's all I need. But now the Dell site is only offering the 6500 with WXGA+ (I'm not willing to give up the pixels) or RGBLED WUXGA for an extra $300+.

Does anyone know if it is still possible to order the cheaper WLED display but still get 1920x1200 resolution? This no longer seems possible on the Dell site, but I can't decide if it's intentional (they no longer offer non-RGBLED) or just a screw-up on their site, which seems pretty flaky in general.

    Thanks for any insights...

You can check third-party vendors. The panel Dell uses I think is LG LP171WU7 TL D1. I know this because someone on this forum had a M6500 that he posted that model of his 1200p WLED. I also know because if you see any LG LP171WU7 TL B1, those are for HP Elitebook 8740w's.

Last I checked for the TL B1, I snagged one at $140 USD.

    Good luck!

Crap. Looks like Dell may be EOLing the m6500. The web site no longer includes the 6500 on the list of models, and if you navigate to the product page by searching on "m6500", it says "Call for price" and the normal configuration page is not displayed.

Any of you Dell veterans out there know what to make of this? Are they just reorganizing to offer a new series of discounts on the 6500, or is this what the product retirement process looks like?

    Thanks,
    xPat

When I got my m6500 last year the backlit keyboard was an extra cost option, that was through Dell Canada

Hi - question for this group before I call Dell:

Just receive a 6500 two days ago. A06 Bios, 16GB RAM. Almost (or every) time I shut down then later start the machine, it forgets about 8GB or RAM and I get a configuration changed message. If I go into setup, it says memory is 8GB. I then exit, reboot, and it comes up as 16GB. Any ideas?

Booting from 64GB SSD, with 2 500GB in Raid 0 array, if that is of any interest.

    Thanks -

    Matt

UPDATE: Dell wanted to switch out the unit, but called back to say they could not because it was EOL. I need to return it for a refund, and order something else. The 6600 with 16GB will not ship for a month. Ugh.

I have to see why they can't JUST replace the MB and DIMMs.

That's crazy...ok then, what do they for us with m6500 under pro-support warranty that need to changed? Refund us? That's just doesn't make sense. I believe you, but doesn't make sense.

I suspect the Dell machine just had "replace machine" in its brain. I went through a hand-off from the Tampa-based workstation support (that did not know they could not replace it) to India. The customer support in India did not know what there were fixing, just that they were supposed to replace the machine. I got the news via a voicemail, so I will call back Monday and go for a MB and DIMMS. (or wait for a 6600 if I decide it's worth it)
