    Oops. My typo mistake Kaso.

t tangent, thanks for the info about the chipset. I over look that one.
I have looked into the i7-920XM before. I have compared with one of the forum member here via Rendering in Revit. The speed of rendering between the 820QM and 920XM is not much. Only few seconds only (I was looking into few minutes :) )

    Hi Folks,

I tried starting my M6500 today and:
The battery indicator lights up / fan spins up - this happens for about 3-5 seconds. Screen never turns on.. And that's it - power light goes off again.. I've no clue what could be the issue.. there's no display at all.. I tried it with the laptop plugged in and on battery.. same thing..

    Any suggestions..

    Thanks,
    Nik

    First things first;

Test your AC adapter with a multimeter to make sure it's getting correct voltages.

    1) With battery and AC adapter removed, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

    2) Try to display externally

    3) Reseat RAM/HDD and then repeat step 2

    4) Replace RAM with known good RAM and repeat step 2 (if it displays after this replace LCD/inverter)

    5) Replace LGB

Course if it's still under warranty you only really need to go to beginning of step 4..

Thinking about buying the Nvidia Quadro 5000M and selling my 3800M now that the 5000M is available for the M6500. Does anyone know how to find the part number for the new card? I know it hasn't been out that long, but it seems like a great upgrade.

It is under warranty and techs sending a new mobo/adapter.. I was wondering if its the RAM myself.. but it should at least POST. Going to try step 1 and 2..

I mean if it's under warranty then you just really need to try step 1. Sometimes battery memory can prevent POST or even from powering on. I have fixed probably 50+ notebooks that were not powering on or posting.

pffft! I got 3 Precisions last month:
2 of them had screen defects. The 3rd I believe had a screen with poor brightness.
    1 had issues with keyboard.

2 I returned - 1 I kept which just died on me. lol.. I wonder if it was a bad idea to begin with, buying from business outlet.. I love the one I have (when it's working).. </end rant>
