Hello.. Hopefully this question more on topic :)

This one probably for Bokeh... and anyone who has found good calibration results with edge-edge RGB display.

There are two drivers on Dell website, one is ISV certified the other not.. I don't much care about the certification, I need the best color calibration for photo editing I can get.. so with that in mind, which driver is "best"?

Follow up to that, are the recommendations posted way back by Bokeh still the way to go or is there more refinement in those instructions? (I searched by 514 pages is bound to be something hidden I didnt see.)

    Thanks!

Ho scaricato Monitor Asset Manager, e questi sono i risultati:

    Monitor #1 [Real-time 0x0041]
    Manufacturer…………. Seiko-Epson
    Plug and Play ID……… SEC5443
    Data string………….. FR928€170CT
    Serial number………… n/a
    Manufacture date……… 2008, ISO week 0
    ————————-
    EDID revision………… 1.4
    Input signal type…….. Digital
Color bit depth………. 8 bits per primary color
    Color encoding formats… RGB 4:4:4
    Screen size………….. 370 x 230 mm (17,2 in)
    Power management……… Not supported
    Extension blocs………. None
    ————————-
    DDC/CI………………. Not supported

    Color characteristics
    Default color space…… Non-sRGB
    Display gamma………… 2,20
    Red chromaticity……… Rx 0,580 – Ry 0,340
    Green chromaticity……. Gx 0,310 – Gy 0,550
    Blue chromaticity…….. Bx 0,155 – By 0,155
    White point (default)…. Wx 0,313 – Wy 0,329
    Additional descriptors… None

    Marco

    Hi all,

I am having the following issue with M6500 and USB3 HDD:

System BIOS may not detect USB3.0 HDD devices as a bootable media at system power on. As the result, M6500 system may not boot operating system from an USB3.0 HDD device.

The USB 3.0 HDD is recognized correctly by Windows XP (SP3) and it works correctly, but at system power on (during POST) the M6500 can only recognize my WD 500GB USB 2.0 HDD as bootable USB media. Both the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 HDDs are formatted NTFS. It doesn't matter in which USB port I plug in the USB 3.0 HDD, the result is the same.
USB 3.0 is enabled in the BIOS. BIOS version is A04.

The type of the USB 3.0 HDD is Silicon Power Armor A80 with Hitachi 640 GB HDD. It has the JMS539 chip. The firmware for this chip is the latest available JMS539_PM_255.31.3.41.22_20100805.BIN.

The driver version for the NEC USB 3.0 Host Controller is 1.0.18.0. Firmware version is 3021.

Is there a specific setting in the BIOS which allows me to boot from a USB 3.0 HDD ?

I have seen that for some Lenovo laptops there was need for a BIOS update to be able to boot from an USB 3.0 HDD.

    Thanks,
    marosy

    Hi Marosy,

If I remember correctly I read somewhere on the Dell site or in the USB 3 driver readme.txt that it is not possible to boot from USB 3. It only becomes available once you have booted up into the OS. Have a look in the USB 3 driver files as I am sure there is some info about it there.

Not sure if there is a work around for it or whether there will be an update to allow this in the future, but possibly a chap called havoctex on this forum might be able to provide more info.

    Cheers

If your hard drive is USB 2.0 backward compatible just plug it into the USB 2.0 port on the right side of the M6500. It should boot then. I haven't been able to get a USB 3.0 device to boot either from the blue USB 3.0 ports. Also, if you have problems with USB 3.0 causing a blue screen on your M6500, you should really update your drivers and firmware. The Dell ones are as old as the dinosaurs. Grab the new stuff here and be all nice and up to date. :)

    SONY/NEC firmwares

Firmware is 3027 and drivers are 2.0.32 latest as of today.

I don't understand. You've had the M6500 for a year, and the i7-840QM was released a couple of months ago. Your M6500 may have an i7-820QM, which was a configuration option in early 2010.

    Compare 2920XM, 920XM, 840QM, 820QM

The first-generation i7's use PGA988 sockets. The 2920XM has the same dimension (37.5mm x 37.5mm) but uses micro-PGA or rPGA998. This may be an incompatibility.

    Hi Jun,

Don't quote me on this but looking at that link if you then check this page which shows Compatible Chipsets, the PM55 chipset is NOT listed as being compatible.

    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52237#compatibility

However the Intel Core™ i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, 2.00 GHz) is listed as being compatible with the PM55 chipset and I would think that is the cpu you want

    Intel® Core? i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, 2.00 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SLBLW

If anyone else can confirm this that would be good, but I think the above looks correct.

Kaso, yes I reckon he must mean the 820QM. I also have the 820QM processor so it would be interesting to see how much it would cost to do this upgrade, but probably not worth the cost/performance increase.

    Cheers

Depends on how far prices for the 920XM or 940XM drop over the next few months. With Sandy Bridge finally out, prices for them may crash. We'll just have to see.

Anyone notice that the Nivida Quadro 5000M is now available in the M6500? Anyone actually ordered one so that you can let us know how the performance is?
