    When I installed Windows XP my E6400 I used ATA/IDE compatible mode. The lapto is rock solid and I am very happy to not have to care about strange issues with the SATA drivers. I can really recommend ATA/IDE mode if you don't need the eSATA port.

    For those using the 8.7.0.1007, I suggest looking at event viewer, When i installed it, I kept getting an error

    "The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.".
    whenever I did a full boot up from shut down.

    The source was iaStor and the Event ID was 9. Using the old drivers removed the occurrence of this error

    These did not help my audio skipping. They only introduced a shutdown hang in Vista. If anything skipping is worse than before.

    I've just had to reinstall XP (login service somehow trashed itself) and slipstreamed the AHCI drivers into my XPSP3 cd with nLite, but did not install the corresponding manager software, this still gives the high latency "problem" so it's definitely not the IMSM causing it.

    @Doc2Be

    I use the once that came with the rescource disk when I got my E6500.

    I think mine is called Intel bla bla bla A02-something

    It would be a nice thing to be able to upload all these drivers to a spot on this website.

    Find the driver your looking for at the Dell support site and on that page there should also be a link for "previous versions" " other versions" on the top left.

    For ex. here's the E6500 page for the 8.7 drivers, click on other versions and it takes you the 8.2 drivers page.
