Seems like removing the drive indeed drops the latency to something like 250 microseconds. It didn't improve the crackling.

I've reinstalled the IDT driver and indeed it seems the crackling is much less prevalent, although it has popped a couple of time in the last 10 minutes.

Anyway, it all seems much better.

Is this only a fix for the crackling with IDT drivers? After updating IMSM I'm still getting slight audio crackles even after reinstalling the Vista HD Audio driver.

There's a lot of possible suggested antidotes for crackling audio in the crackling audio thread.

Just got done reading through that thread. I downloaded DPC and my latency is stuck in the red zone - averaging around 10000us, max being 31000us. I know it's been said the latest IMSM is causing high latency - but my audio still shutters/skips/pops (it seems like a lot of people are saying audio is better). This is regarless of wireless adapter (intel 5300) being enabled or disabled.

Same problem in my case. No 'solution' that worked for other people worked for me.

Guess it's not worth installing the new Intel Matrix yet.

Has anyone tried running their HDD in modes other than IRRT (e.g. changing to ATA in BIOS) and seeing if these problems with latency etc... still exist?

I tried installing 8.7.0.1007 on my M4400 (Bios A11). I noticed that I had problems shutting down. Vista would hang during the shutting down screen. Only way to remove it would be to press the power button down for 4 secs and force a shut down. I also noticed the system would slow down. I reinstallled the 8.2.2.1001 drivers and so far all has been ok. Has anyone noticed this?

As I've mentioned in the other threads, there are a lot of people here with seemingly identical issues - even though the underlying causes may vary. Please be sure to open support tickets with Dell Support to get them to address this issue. Include a link to this thread so they can see scope of this issue, and realize that eventually these comments will start scaring people away from the Dell line if these issues aren't fixed soon, if they haven't already. If you can't stand the traditional phone support, use the online chat or email options.

Prix - I'd be especially curious to hear what comes out of your contact with Dell's "Gold support".

I still have a ticket open, and haven't heard anything back yet. I'll try to follow-up before the end of the week.

so which versions are the one we should go for?? I have noticed that the drives seem to run slower on this machine then they did on the ocz whitebook.

I just noticed that the Intel Matrix Storage Manager is now gone from my list of driver downloads. In light of the discussions above I wonder if Dell pulled it intentionally, and if there's a new one coming out. The 8.7.0.1007 version from Dell is still the newest that Intel offers on their website.
