I installed 8.7 and did not have any issues with it at all. I need to test it by burning a dvd. I have had issues burning stuff before, so hopefully this will help. As for latency, it's still there but no sound issues.

wow .. i have the exact opposite experience as you guys.

i have the M2400, and have always been outputting audio via DisplayPort / HDMI; and NEVER ran into any audio pops / crackles and read the numerous audio issues posts with bemusement.

then i installed this new storage driver. after the very first reboot, i had what i am sure is what others have been getting. playback from iTunes would pop on average 5 times a minute. it's insane.

restored my hard disk image (i disable restore points, just use whole partition images which are known to be good), and all is fine again.

I'm giving the new driver another try and can confirm that the high latency disappears once the optical drive is removed. However, I can further add that connecting an eSATA HDD causes the same high latency.

I uninstalled the matrix storage manager software (which leaves the basic drivers), to see if the latency was caused by the manager, but this made no difference.

My conclusion is that the matrix storage drivers are continuously checking any removable SATA devices in a way that increases the latency measured by the DPC latency checker but, at the same time, does not make any significant increase in the CPU load.

I can confirm this too! Very constant, high latency as shown previously in this thread. Once I physically removed my DVD-drive (got no burner, just a drive), the latency dropped back to green. (but still with peaks over 16000us from time to time).

Edit: The moment I inserted the drive again the latency went up to about 12000us again.. definitely something driver-related!

See also this thread. My burner disappeared and became a disk drive with a peculiar name (see the attachment). Removing, replacing and redetecting the optical drive got things back to normal. But for how long?

Disabling the DVD burner yields no improvement here.

    Vista x64, E6400 with 8.7 Intel drivers.

I have 10000 microsec latency and I can't get it lower.

Audio popped with 8.2 drivers and still does with 8.7 a few times a minute.

When I considered installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager App (framework), I read the fine print in the installer before not proceeding. It implied that additional driver type stuff would be installed, and that uninstalling would only remove the app stuff, not these additional drivers. So point being, your uninstall may not be comprehensive and could still leave components affecting latency.

But it does sound like the latency issue is a function of physical devices installed. We may both have the same latency issue, you with part or all of the Manager App installed, and me with none of it installed. Despite the DPC latency I have, my real-world performance seems acceptable so far.

This could suggest that the audio popping may have nothing to do with the latest SATA driver. Do you have latency problems with video?

I didn't disable the optical drive to get the latency to drop back to normal, I unplugged it.

Remember that if you all of a sudden have audio crackles with the new IMSM that the audio driver usually needs to be reinstalled after updating the MSM.

Do these spikes coincide with the random flashes of the HDD light?
