I'm about to buy this laptop, after reading a lot of posts here my only concern is the temperature. I currently have a laptop that generally runs really hot, which makes it uncomfortable to use it on the lap, for example. Will I have the same issue with this model (considering that I live in a place where 26-33C is the average temperature)?

The 5470 has a good cooling system. The problem is with the fan rules which are coded into the BIOS and (unless the rules have been recently changed in a BIOS update) mean that the CPU temperature can stay at around 55C under light usage without the fan coming on and some of that heat transfers to the base. A little more CPU activity and the fan will come on and stay on unless the temperature drops substantially. There are some different cooling rule options in Dell Power Manager but they didn't appear to have any significant effect when I had the 5570 (very similar platform).

Got it, I have the same issue with my current laptop. Anyone here tried https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/i8kutils/ ?

I'm almost buying it, the X1 Carbon would be my next choice but I don't think I can justify 400-500 more to get it. I think I can live with the high temps

M2 x 3 is, I think, the right size (and is also used for the WiFi and WWAN cards).

It's useful to buy one of the screw multi-packs off ebay and keep in the drawer for these occasions.

So I bought a Crucial mx300 m.2, the m2 x 3mm screws were included. However, the screw position in the ssd doesn't match
the ones in the laptop's board. I remember I saw in the e5470 pdf a case that was used to install the m.2 sdd, Have anyone had this issue? I wonder If this case exists, otherwise I'll have to use a double-sided tape to hold it

The M.2 format covers a range of different widths and lengths. However, the info I can find suggests that both the MX300 and the SSD slot in the 5470 use the 2280 format (80mm long). How much is the discrepancy in the screw position? If it is small then have you fully inserted the SSD into the slot?

Yes, the problem is that the screw is positioned to the right, about 1-1.5cm. I called Dell, there is a specific bracket to hold m.2 ssds using the screw. However, they don't supply it so... I'll have to consider alternatives.
