im debating between the lenovo x220 vs. dell v131, both at same price
both have i5 intel and 4mb ram and same price
x220 is 12'5 screen vs. 13'3 at dell, anyone have any advice on what to pick?
im leaning towards the x220, a bit smaller screen, but just wanted any last thoughts from v131 owners to see if they suggest otherwise..

    thanks

So I just got my core i5 and I can't get the computer to wake from sleep except through the power button.

I look for power management under device manager for the touchpad and keyboard and the option isn't available. Googling the problem isn't very informative.

Other than that it seems pretty nice. Screen is decidedly average, but mine will spend most time plugged into a separate screen and keyboard. Nice and quiet and looks good.

Unfortunately, if I can't get that sleep issue solved, it's a return... :(

    Can vostro V131 run 2 external usb3.0 HDD ?

Could someone confirm with me that V131 can run two external usb3.0 HDD or not, please ? I have to deal with vostro 3750 by usb 3.0 hub (which is I cant find).

The vostro 3750 has two usb3.0 ports (blue color) but they just can’t run two external usb3.0 HDD at the same time.

    Accept: (2.5” usb3.0 + 2.5” usb2.0); (2.5” usb3.0 + 3.5” usb2.0); (3.5” usb3.0 + 2.5” usb2.0); (3.5” usb3.0 + 3.5” usb3.0 – haven’t tested)

    Non-accept: (2.5” usb3.0 + 2.5” usb3.0); (2.5” usb3.0 + 3.5” usb3.0)

    Note: 3.5” hdd with adapter

So what is the point of the laptop having 2 usb3.0 ports ? for show off, look cool ???!!

I have confirm from Dell’s technician that vostro 3750 can’t run with 2 ext usb3.0 so I guess votro 3350, 3450, 3550, and especially V131 can not run also.

I have tested 2 ext 2.5” usb3.0 HDD with Dell XPS 15 (L501X), they run perfectly.

I though that too but it's not that software. I have this driver installed. Tried unninstal it and I get some error. Same error I get when I try to reinstall it.

I think I am screwed, no fingerprint for me :(

EDIT: Found that SW DigitalPersona Personal on DVD.

    Hi guys!

    This week I received my Vostro V131 (i5 / 6GB RAM / 500Go), and I had a few days to use it...
The computer is good, I love the backlit keyboard (but has some flex..), the screen is ok (colors and brightness good for me, but definition sucks :/), it's lightweight, good battery life, and it's fast...

BUT I'm very disappointed about the noise it makes:
    - you can always here (faintly) the 7200rpm hardrive
    - the fan kicks in WAY too often for me.

I installed SpeedFan to measure temperature (HD0 / Temp1 / Core0 / Core 1), and I can clearly see that the fan turns on when theses 3 last temps reach 50C... and that happens quite often. In idle mode, they usually vary between 44-47C, so as soon as you open 2-3 new tabs on your browser (Chrome in my example), you start to hear the fan...

Sadly, SpeedFan doesn't detect my fans (shows only the temps), and I didn't manage to install i8kfangui, so I have no software to control my fan..

I'm planning on returning the computer, but my question is:
If I get the same computer, but this time with the "Celeron ULV 847 1.10GHz with Intel HD 2000" & SSD, do you think I'll be facing the same problem ?
Does any one have this configuration, or even just the Celeron ? what are the idle temperatures ? and during load ? do you hear the fan often ?

I'm a french student, and I already have a laptop (but bigger and heavier), so I'm just looking for a small 13" to bring to class for basic stuff (browsing, bit of programming, tvshows & movies, music & spotify, etc), but I really don't want to be hearing the fan all day long :(

btw my dad works at dell, so no need to mention other brands (x220 :/ )

    thanks in advance !

    Seriously?

Read back a few pages and I had/have the Celeron v131 and fitted an SSD. I also reported on the fan and how it behaved.

    yep same here.

Using RealTemp, I get 46c (i5/6GB/500GB - back from sleep, browser with 7-8 tabs opened). But around 40-43c on startup.

one question remains.. under load, how does the temperature grow (Celeron/SSD) ?
29c.. then 25min later 34c.. how much load can it take until it reaches 50c.. ?

    cheers
