The 5510 has the pro BIOS. VERY glad to see that changed.

I have unfortunately been pretty rough on my M3800. It has some scratches and dings, but still performs perfectly. Hate to hear that yours did not hold up as well.

There are many differences in offerings between the XPS 15 and Precision 5510. Processor offerings, storage options, professional GFX, Precision Performance Optimizer, ISV certs, broader OS offerings, full configurability on the Dell.com store, vPro support, overclocked memory, and the list just goes on. :)

Will Precision use same slow pm951 ssd like xps 15 or something better? How much does a i7/512gb 5510 cost more than a i7/512gb xps 15? Thank you.

    Dell-Mano_G:

    I have a few questions...

Xeon on 5510... am I write in thinking that battery life for light use will be worse as it would have to rely on discrete graphics all the time?
Do you need a Xeon for quad core + 32GB RAM? Or just to get ECC

    Thunderbolt 3...
Will the 5510 (and other TB3 equipped Dell laptops) support desktop GPU cards via Thunderbolt eGPU enclosures? Is this going to be a multivendor standard like Intel suggests?
Will the 5510 support hot plug / unplug from a GPU equipped dock or will a shutdown be required?
Some software (e.g. Blender for CUDA rendering) can make simultaneous use of multiple GPUs (*NOT SLI*) - will it be possible to combine the mobile Quadro in the 5510 with a desktop Nvidia card in a dock?

Precision models usually have Linux as an option, so this should not be a problem.

    Let's wait and see.

Running ubuntu on my elitebook 8570w (this thing is a brick, want something thinner) doesn't seem to make use of gpu switchting, thus it is always on. Not good for battery life.
Hopefully the precision 5510 will have some acceptable battery life :)
