right on the webpage you posted http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/flash-storage/client-ssd/

"...SM951 prides ultra high performance of NVMe..."
"...PM951 performs better at lower costs, and reliably withstands extreme environments...."

And go to the specs page and compare:

    http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/flash-storage/client-ssd/MZHPV512HDGL?ia=831
    http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/flash-storage/client-ssd/MZVLV256HCHP?ia=831

And as far as I know, PM951 is a TLC based lower end model. The performance is lame. I just tested mine. Replace it with a 950 pro was the first thing I did to my 5510

Right you are! sorry for my earlier post. Late nights, looming deadlines and migraines don't make a good mix I guess!

I find myself being very annoyed that Dell would put such an inferior drive in this laptop. The configurator was ambiguous at best with really only price to go by as a gauge of assumed performance. They must not have had a high bar for performance, perhaps that's why Mano wouldn't actually tell us what those minimum performance parameters were.

Is it worth ripping the PM951 out and replacing it? Such a waste of money though since I supposedly paid ~$450 for it.

I'm waiting for the 1 TB m.2 drives personally. Capacity ias increasing rapidly that's why I configured with smallest drive with 84wh extended battery.

The only other makers of nvme drives are Toshiba and Intel. The Intel ones are targeted at enterprise and the Toshiba XG3 is found only in some SP4 and surface books.

    My 2 cents

grassright, can you tell a significant difference since you changed out the drives?
