I'm new to Dell, as I've been using HP and Lenovo the last 10 years. When I look at M3800 vs M4800 I see different CPU options - like it is with the 5510 and 7010.
Comparing Xeon options the 7010 only has the E3-1535M and 5510 only the E3-1505M. Seems unlikely to ever see the E3-1505M in the 5510 then?

I am comparing the US and Europe configurations for the 5510. There is a small surprise with the M2 PCIe 1TB drive. In the US it sells for "Add 979 dollar", but in Europe it is "Add 475 Euro". In all other cases, the Euro price is slightly above the dollar price. This one is very different. Are the 1TB drives different? Or what else can explain this huge price difference?

you can configure a 5510 with the e3-1505M today. I hear that the 1535 might be available later. thinkpad p50 will be available with both.

I don't really have an allegiance to any RAM branding, but lately I get crucial since they are most often cited as being reliable, from what I've read. I've had good results with Mushkin (a single 4GB module installed in a 2011 HP server [64 bit pentium E5200 in linux] running nearly non stop without shutdowns, except for occasional bare metal backups -- no RAM faults ever in that machine - that is since Feb 2011). While I've had numerous Kingston (king of the rams?) BSOD memory faults (using the dell m6500 i7.920xm in windows)... so not entirely sure if RAM faults or a module (brand) being poorer than another... or an OS handling faults better than another, or the machine hardware, etc.... many variables. I tend to go with Crucial now-a-days and the only BSOD (windows obviously, never had an issue in my two linux boxes) are from devices (intel network card, video driver, etc).

    Hi everyone,
was going to get a XPS machine, till I found 5510 Today.
Planning to order it from dell.com, with the help of my US based friend. I'm based in EU, but neither dell.co.uk non dell.de ship to my country and the pricing seems much better.

Have a question about getting the machine from dell.com.

Is it possible to order one with no windows installation and no storage whatsoever?

Planning to get 950 Pro ssd and want to get the larger battery also, so the drives offered by dell are of no use and unnecessarily ordering their 256gb ssd to be able to get the larger battery is a waste of money.

    Thanks

I believe they plan to offer a Linux option "soon", but until that is available, you will have to get the Windows installation. Some people have had success getting a refund for the OEM Windows license if they don't plan to use it, but you have to jump through a lot of hoops for that, and being out of the US might make it more difficult.

They will not sell the machine without storage. (I've tried to go down that road before.)

Very interesting conversation. Congratulations to the community for the new mobile workstations on the market. Have a few questions about Dell Precision 5510 (shortly DP5510):
    1. Will these memory cards fit into DP5510? Would you recommend any better alternatives? http://www.corsair.com/en/corsair-m...mm-2133mhz-c15-memory-kit-cmso32gx4m2a2133c15 (is 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SODIMM 2133MHz the maximum available memory for DP5510 and can it be theoretically expanded to 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 SODIMM 2133MHz when it will appear on the market?)
    2. Will the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD 512 GB chip fit into DP5510? Any faster or more reliable alternatives? http://www.anandtech.com/show/9702/samsung-950-pro-ssd-review-256gb-512gb
    3. Does DP5510 have a Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port to connect to external graphics card for Fallout 4 on high specs (will it be fine to play Fallout 4 on this ultra thin laptop?)
    4. From within Ireland I can choose the 15.6" UltraSharp™ FHD IPS (1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit with Premium Panel Guarantee - is it a 4K display or not?
    5. Can the 6-cell (81Wh) Lithium Ion battery with ExpressCharge be replaced when it will collapse? What is this about - 3Yr Extended Battery Service?
    6. How many Watt does the default power adapter have?
    7. Does Dell include an external DVD-RW burner altogether with the laptop and which version of Windows does it contain? I see Windows 7 Professional (64Bit) Multi-Language - English, French, German, Dutch, Italian from the customization page but people and reviews tell about Windows 10.
    8. For those who have already bought this great laptop - can you load BIOS screen on startup in order to switch off Bluetooth?
    Best Wishes,
    Sam

    3. It does have a Thunderbolt 3, but external GPUs are sort of a new thing (only fully supported for the first time with Thunderbolt 3), I believe there are bandwidth constraints that keep the GPU from operating as fully as it would in a desktop.
    4. That is a 1080p display (not 4K).

    1. Technically yes, though not sure if that would require BIOS update, that's if they release one. Win10 x64 can handle 2TB physical memory.

    2. I think some folks have done so already.

    3. Should be able to play with the internal card, but if you play games the XPS 15 with GTX 960 probably has better and more up to date drivers than Quadro.

    4. 4K is 3840x2160

    7. You have to buy external DVD-R. But they're so cheap nowadays.
