Interesting, I produce content everyday as an architect and have never used the number pad or page up/down keys. Perhaps all these projects are a figment of my imagination.

I believe what he meant specifically is the Fn key combo necessary for using Home/End. Also, since there is not a 10keypad on the 5510, there is no way to dedicate the 7 or 3 to act as Home End as you would on a 7000 series. Also, that it is an island keyboard (also referred to as "chiclets". And no dedicated volume controls. I think that was everything regarding distaste for the latest precision keyboard design. Rest assured, I'm certain he will expand on that if I missed anything.

Well, yeah, some people still produce content using a keyboard, imagine that. You know, typing words 'n ****, that kind of thing. Yeah, I know, that's kind of going out of style.

Just a few years down the road, Dell will start selling us laptops without keyboards, 'coz, who needs 'em?
They'll start with the "~" key, nobody uses that one anyway. Useless stuff like "<" and ">", and square brackets will be next. What, two control and two shift keys? You people are nuts, one of each of those is plenty! Come to think of it, who needs a control key? Shift and Caps-lock, what for, lowercase letters'll do just fine. Then they'll go "Heck, the letter z is only used in 0.074% of the entries in the Concise Oxford dictionary, so we don't need that one" (same logic, by the way, by which Microsoft uses their inane "metrics" to justify crippling the latest Windows versions, but I digress...); the letter "q" will be next, and on it goes. Yep, we're making great progress; what a brave new world!

For some of us, the lack of a number pad is a plus for ergonomic reasons -- I've even done away with them on my desktop keyboards (initially to be cheap, but being able to have y trackball closer in with the "tournament-style" 84-key keyboards has proved way more comfortable.) I've never seen a need for one, and while I liked the Latitude keyboard generation where we had PgUp/PgDn on the shoulders of the arrow keys, I find the Fn-key combinations more comfortable than the even older keyboards where PgUp/PgDn were on the upper left.

Keyboards in general have been going down hill in the aim of making machines thinner, and copying the Apple chiclet style and pushing out ever-bigger trackpads... still, could be worse.

Can you spread some light about Mobile Broadband (WWAN/HSPA+/LTE/...) for the Precision 5510.

This machine seems to be perfect for me, but I really want the luxury of the integreated Mobile Broadband.
Will it come in the near fututre? If not, what is the reasoning for not including it in this truly mobile workstation?

Has it been confirmed that this machine now uses the precision trackpad? One thing that I HATE about my M3800 is this freakin' Synaptics trackpad.

Still need to read confirmation if the SSD is the 950 Pro NVMe and also to see the result of the 4K calibrated with a i1Display Pro (NOT the spyder tool).

The 7000 series has two options for M.2 - standard and high performance. 5000 series only the "no label option".... high performance please! The price of the 5510 option is in between the two disks on the 7510.

Only the Zbook 15 Studio G3 is coming close to the Precision size wise, 100% Adobe RGB and Xeon.

WSJ Joanna STern's review of the XPS 15 said it is using Precision Trackpad, so I think so yes.

it's buy time. I configured a 5510 with the Xeon chip and everything I want...EXCEPT...they have only a 16G memory option (no 32).

16 will be okay for me most of the time, but I really wanted 32 and thought this machine would be capable of it. if I buy the 16G version, I think I will be able to upgrade it later to 32 on my own is that correct? if so then I am buying now.

ok spent some time on the phone with a Dell rep. he said it is user-upgradeable to 32G but only sells with 16. if you want it to ship with 32G you have to go with the thicker/uglier 7510
