    They're very very similar machines, occupying the exact same place in the model line-up. The Lenovo is a tiny bit smaller, and the published weight is a half pound lighter. (Both will vary by configuration.)

    Detailed configuration options don't seem to be available for the P50 yet, but off the less-than-detailed data sheet, it seems like the differences are mostly in the P50's favor, albeit not big ones for most people:
    * Color sensor available
    * 4th USB 3 port
    * 2nd 2.5" bay (may require a smaller battery?)

    It's not at all clear that the P50 provides a lot more power -- have you seen detailed options uploaded somewhere? I'd call the power difference between the 5510 and the 7510 as modest; if you need a much, much more powerful GPU the 7710 (or P70) will be the way to go. The one exception is memory -- for folks who need more than 32gb (or expect to within the life of the laptop) the 5510 or XPS 15 isn't really an option.

    As for stronger build, between the M4800 and the W540, I'd definitely pick the M4800... although you pay for it a lot with weight. All of the 5510, 7510 and P50 are brand new, so if build quality matters, I'd strongly recommend giving it a bit longer to get them out into the hands of actual consumers and see some reviews.

    Specs now show (or I missed earlier)
    Power:130 Watt AC adapter (4.5mm barrel)

    Which is the new small one, vs. the 7.4mm barrel on the older connectors. So another issue with ordering -- it's showing the wrong extra power supplies! (You can use the passive adapters to go down, but the older 130W supplies are quite a bit heavier.)

    Looks like I'm going with one of the full-size models this generation.

    Hi guys

    Been following this thread, and now that the 5510 is available for order, I had to join the chat.

    I’m looking to the E3, 16GB, M.2 PCIe, 84W/t battery, UHD because of 100% AdobeRGB

    I’m using my computer for both everyday work and photography work done in Photoshop (truecolors) and Premiere Pro (rendering).

    Does anyone know if the FHD has 100% AdobeRGB?
    Don’t you guys the M2000M will be available soon?
    What about E5, E7 – I’ve read Lenovo will release laptops with them Q4?
    What SSD is the fastest to pick?
    Also the new dock is not available?

    (I’ve got a Samsung 512GB mSata I think I’ll put in the 2,5” bay. With a converter)

    Gudi

    It is unlikely that the M2000M will be made available in the 5510.
    The new Thunderbolt dock will not be available until next year (I think we are hearing "January").

    any idea what is the model of SSD used in 5510? is it the same pm951 in xps15? if so, I had to replace it with either sm951 or 950pro later..

    Is there special mounting required (such as a connector and mounting frame) if I want to add a 2.5er SSD to a Precision 5510 which was shipped with a PCIe SSD only and with small battery?

    The 7510 has this PCIe 'interposer' as it's called for the 2.5" bay. According to support docs it's just the connector between device and motherboard. It's not clear at this moment whether the 5510 supports this interposer or not (there's no spec detailing it and nothing in any of the various country configurators), but the 7510 definitely does.

    The same thing is true of ECC RAM. Theoretically there's no reason the 5510 with a Xeon can't use ECC RAM (or that the RAM is any different from the 7510), but it's not an option in the configurator, while the 7510 has them...

    I need both these facts confirmed before buying the 5510 too.

    Dell-Mano_G confirmed that you can buy a 7510 without a 2.5" drive and it will include everything needed to mount a drive there (bracket, screws, etc.). [This was also the case when I bought my M6700.]

    I would expect it to also be the case in the 5510 since this has been standard in the Precision line for some time, but I don't think it has been confirmed for the 5510.
