I don't know if it's wise to post the service tag online.

Also, this is a finer point, but referring to an SSD as a HDD (or HHD) is kind of a misnomer.

Are the drives initialized through disk management?

Anyone know what LCD panel the is used for the IPS m6800? I'm looking specs, like srgb%, contrast ratio, etc. The reviews online seem to all be for the TN version.

edit1: Looks like I was mistaken, these are still TN displays even though Dell says they are "wide view", which usually means IPS.

edit2: Dell rep insists that display is IPS in the current models. Now I'm not sure o_O

Just a heads up, in my case only BIOS A11 allows for full performance when on battery. If i use A14 or A15, I'm locked to 800mhz cpu clock.

I just got a (new to me) M6800. It doesn't have the fingerprint reader.

I'd like to add this and I *think* that all I need to do is change the palm rest for one with a reader. If that's correct, what are the palm rest part numbers for the FIPS and Non-FIPS versions?

    Thanks
    Dave

Palmrest with FIPS (Dell short spare part description: ASSY,PLMRST,USH,W/FIPS,M6800) - 840M4
Palmrest with Swipe (Dell short spare part description: ASSY,PLMRST,USH,W/SWP,M6800) - TCDC5

Have fun with Dell Spare Parts! Do list the prices they quote you for them. :)

Well, I've not 'phoned Dell yet, but searching on the net showed some pretty horrid prices - I think the lowest I saw was £174 (probably plus VAT), so likely ending up around £208 (roughly USD 300) -!

    If I can't get one for somewhere around $50 to $100, I won't be going there ...

    Cheers, Dave

I was looking to upgrade a precision m6800 from a 900p to 1080p screen and was wondering if the cable from the motherboard to LCD panel needed to be upgraded as well? I have done this on the m4800 but am less familiar with the m6800.

    Thanks.

Anyone with a 980M or 970M in their M6800, with Optimus enabled? Which inf do I have to mod in order to install the driver?

Probably a stupid question but I didn't see anyone else post this in the previous 70+ pages. On the m6800 can you upgrade from a 4800mq to 4910mq without much issue? I saw a 4900mq to 4910mq upgrade. Would it be possible to go from an i5 to i7 or is the dell bios locked up very well.
