Upgraded to Windows 10 here are the highlights and lowlights

+ bought the M6800 with i7 processor and 500GB drive on Ebay for a pretty good price, figured I can upgrade to a 250GB SSD easily with money saved.

    - came with windows 8. Previous owner had wiped the drive and reinstalled using the recovery disk

    - unfortunately recovery disk does not include or install network drivers so I had to download those (both wired and wireless) from a separate PC and install

    - experienced 'limited access' to wifi, found out that this was due to an incompatibility between the Dell 1550 wifi card and my router (Broadcom based card, atheros based router).

+ after researching the problem changed network driver properties -> advanced settings -> BSS mode -> 801.11g allowed for connection to router

    - in the process of troubleshooting the wifi problem updated a BIOS driver and subsequently had to reinstall all the security updates

    - upgraded to Windows 8.1 using the windows 'store'

    - tried upgrading to Windows 10 via microsoft's web based Media Creation Tool however selecting 'update this PC' did not work

+ instead, after a couple of tries, I selected 'update another computer' which downloads the Windows 10 ISO file

+ ran the ISO file by opening the DVD while running Windows 8.1 and selecting 'setup', successfully installed Windows 10

+ am now doing a clean install for Windows 10 from the same ISO file by booting the computer directly to disk.

Hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

    /Doug

I found an m6800 with everything I want for $750 but it has a 1600x900 screen. Can I buy the QHD or 3k/4k resolution screen and just drop in the replacement?

M6800 only supports up to 1080p. High-DPI displays at 17" have only just started to appear. I don't think anyone has tried to put one into the M6800, not sure if the connector would even be the same.

I'm having some strange issues with drivers for my Firepro M6100. The card itself seems to be working, as verified by GPU-Z, but the Catalyst Control Center vanished upon upgrading to Windows 10. I've tried reinstalling the correct driver package from both Dell and AMD, and both installers crash upon running. Has anyone else run into this?

I have read in previous posts that the M6800's displayport can output 4K @60Hz; however, I can only get 4K @30Hz via hdmi and FHD @60Hz via DP (using a pigtail-dongle and the same hdmi-cable I used for 4K through hdmi OR a hdmi-to-DP cable) ; in 'screen resolution' on Win7 the max selectable resolution stays to 1920*1080 when using DP.

Any more settings I need to change to get 4K (preferably @60Hz) through the DP?

(screen is a 40in Samsung UHD television)

You are using HDMI to drive your 4K display? If DisplayPort is not an option on both ends, you will need to make sure that both your display and the DP->HDMI adapter support HDMI 2.0 (sometimes called "HDMI UHD"). Your DP->HDMI cable actually has an adapter inside, at one end of the other (you may notice that the connector is more bulky than it needs to be).

HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at 30 Hz. Older versions don't support 4K at all.
